Super Mario Run is holding a brand-new event to celebrate the upcoming launch of the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The Super Mario franchise has experimented with a wide variety of spin-offs throughout its storied history, with the iconic Italian plumber taking on plenty of different genres. Mario, Luigi, and friends have been featured in everything from sports and racing games to story-driven RPGs and puzzle games, with some of the most successful games in the series coming from its spin-offs. Mario even received his own mobile game in the form of Super Mario Run.
Super Mario Run‘s initial release in late 2016 was a groundbreaking moment for both the franchise and Nintendo as a whole. The Mario endless runner game’s debut not only marked the character’s first appearance in an official mobile game, but also the first Nintendo-developed mobile game from one of the developer’s major franchises for iOS and Android. Super Mario Run boasted more than 50 million downloads within just a week of its launch and is estimated to have seen more than 380 million downloads to date. Now, Nintendo is celebrating the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Switch 2 with a brand-new event in Super Mario Run.

Super Mario Run Launches Super Mario Bros. Wonder Event
Super Mario Run‘s newest event features plenty of nods to Super Mario Bros. Wonder to commemorate the launch of the game on Switch 2. The event adds a special meter for the game’s “Toad Rally” mode, which players can fill by performing specific actions like stomping Goombas and vaulting. Filling the meter will cause a Wonder Flower to appear, which replaces all coins on the map with Gold Goombas that can be defeated just by touching them. Players can earn special rewards for defeating the Gold Goombas in Super Mario Run‘s newest event, earning stamps to fill up four different Stamp Cards for unique in-game statues.

The Super Mario Bros. Wonder tie-in event gives players the chance to nab some exclusive cosmetics. Each completed Stamp Card rewards players with different statues to decorate their in-game kingdoms, including Flower Mario, Captain Toad and Plucky, Luigi and Toadette, and the Koopalings. Nintendo has also confirmed that Wonder Flowers will appear in Super Mario Run‘s Friendly Run game mode, with players not needing to use their Rally Tickets in order to participate in the event. Super Mario Run‘s Super Mario Bros. Wonder event kicked off on March 4, and is scheduled to run through April 3.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder‘s launch on Switch 2 comes with some big upgrades in the next-gen version. The Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder includes the Meetup in Bellabel Park DLC, adding the titular location as a multiplayer hub. Bellabel Park boasts seventeen different multiplayer mini-games designed for up to four players, ranging from platforming challenges, battle modes, and more. The Super Mario Bros. Wonder DLC also adds two new characters to the game, with Rosalina joining the playable cast alongside Co-Star Luma as an assistant character. The Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder will launch on March 26.
Super Mario Run‘s big new event comes as Nintendo is gearing up for one of its biggest annual celebrations. Nintendo has revealed that Nintendo Switch Online will be receiving three new retro games for 2026’s Mario Day celebration, adding Mario Tennis and Mario Clash for Virtual Boy and Mario vs. Donkey Kong for Game Boy Advance. The developer has also confirmed a new Nintendo Direct for March 9, though the presentation will focus exclusively on the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
