LEGO has officially announced its long-expected E.T. set. Based on Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1982 film, LEGO’s latest licensed product is scheduled to launch later in summer 2026.

As is often the case with the company’s models, LEGO’s E.T. set leaked before its announcement, including through a packaging photo. However, even that leak did not fully spoil the set’s key selling point: its immense posing potential.

6 More 2027 LEGO Sets Detailed in New Leak

Details on half a dozen 2027 LEGO sets leak online, describing new original models and sets based on popular IPs such as Harry Potter and Zootopia.

Announced on July 3, LEGO’s new E.T. set immortalizes the titular extraterrestrial with a large brick-built replica that is highly posable, even by the Danish toymaker’s flagship product standards. The 1,226-piece build features a fully articulated neck that can rotate 360 degrees, a mouth that opens, and detailed arms with rotating shoulders and articulated wrists and fingers. Identified by product number 21370, the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial set is scheduled for release as part of LEGO’s August 1 wave.

Beyond its articulation, the model includes several display features that recreate some of the most recognizable imagery from Spielberg’s iconic film. E.T. can be posed with an extended finger, referencing the famous “phone home” gesture, while the included pot of sunflowers nods to the scene in which he revives the wilting flowers. The set costs $139.99 and is available for preorder through LEGO’s online store. LEGO is limiting 21370 E.T. purchases to three per customer, a standard anti-scalping measure for new releases that are expected to see significant demand.

The newly announced set also includes a built-in light brick that can be activated from the back, making E.T.’s heart glow. That is not to be confused with LEGO’s Smart Play platform, which is a much more sophisticated system that integrates NFC sensors, speakers, and configurable lights into a single Smart Brick. By contrast, the 21370 E.T. set uses a simpler battery-powered component that emits a red light when switched on, mimicking the alien’s glowing heart in its default configuration. Long before LEGO formally revealed the Smart Play platform in January 2026, the company had experimented with light-emitting bricks in sets such as 6783 Sonar Transmitting Cruiser, first released in 1986. The two LR41 batteries required to power E.T.’s heart are included in the package.

21370 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial originated as a fan design submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform rather than as one of the toymaker’s internal concepts. It was first submitted in April 2023 and took nearly two years to reach the mandatory 10,000-vote milestone required to qualify for a LEGO review. After being selected as an official Ideas product in October 2025, the set underwent an adaptation process led by LEGO’s designers. The final model is remarkably similar to the original concept, with the differences mostly limited to specific piece choices, presumably to support easier manufacturing.
