Marvel Games, Limited Run Games, and Konami have partnered to announce Marvel MaXimum Collection, a compilation of 13 classic Marvel games coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2026. The collection will include an array of Marvel games from the NES, SNES, and even arcade titles, with 6 of the 13 games revealed so far. Players will also be able to access a variety of modern features for the games, as well as an in-game museum and cheat menus.
Retro Marvel games have seen a monster revival in recent years, with the fan-favorite Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics bringing beloved games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to modern platforms. 2025’s Marvel Cosmic Invasion brought a new take on the classic beat-’em-up genre, which the games in the Marvel MaXimum Collection helped inspire. Now, 2026 is shaping up to be another significant year for Marvel games, with the release of Marvel’s Wolverine slated for September, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls coming in August, and Marvel MaXimum Collection headed to consoles and PC later this year as well.
Don’t Hold Your Breath for Marvel’s Spider-Man on Xbox
Insomniac Games comments on the possibility of releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man on Xbox, and it’s bad news for fans hoping for a platform expansion.
Marvel MaXimum Collection is Bringing 13 Classic Games to Modern Platforms
The announcement of Marvel MaXimum Collection includes a gameplay showcase for 6 of the titles included in the collection. Although Limited Run Games hasn’t revealed the full line-up of games, the titles currently known for the Marvel Maximum Collection include:
- X-Men: The Arcade Game — Arcade
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge — Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Gear
- Captain America and the Avengers — Arcade, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, NES
- Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage — Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive
- Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety — Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive
- Silver Surfer — NES
The focus of this collection is on the 16-bit era of Marvel games, including arcade titles like X-Men: The Arcade Game and Captain America and the Avengers. However, NES titles like Silver Surfer and SNES games like Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage will also be available as part of the compilation. These games represent some of the best superhero beat’em ups from the 90s, many of which have had limited releases in the modern gaming era.

Another major perk of this collection is the rollback netcode included for online play in X-Men: The Arcade Game. This feature will allow players to team up cooperatively for seamless online play that emulates the experience of playing side-by-side on an arcade cabinet. As such, the Marvel MaXimum Collection will likely become the definitive way to experience one of the most iconic Marvel arcade games of all time.
Other Features Included with Marvel MaXimum Collection
- Save Anywhere
- In-Game Rewind
- Archive
- Music Player
- Display Options
- Cheat Menus
Several useful modern features will also be available in Marvel MaXimum Collection. The ability to save anywhere should help new players adjust to the difficulty of some of these older games, as well as afford players with limited game time the opportunity to play in short bursts. In-Game Rewind is also a feature geared to accessibility, allowing Marvel fans to undo actions if they make a mistake. For fans wanting that authentic retro experience, the collection will include display options like CRT and scanline filters for a true 90s gaming feel.
Marvel MaXimum Collection will include other features that essentially allow it to act like a museum for this era of Marvel games. The Archive will allow players to access high-resolution scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and vintage advertisements, while the Music Player lets players listen to the classic chiptune music from every version of every game included in the collection. Between the new features and classic titles, this is another 2026 Marvel game fans will want to keep an eye on.
