A 2D platformer on Steam called Jump Adventures, which was previously a paid title, has permanently removed its price tag. Steam users can now add the game to their libraries for free and access its latest update, which brings several improvements. Jump Adventures has very few reviews on Valve’s storefront at the time of writing, but it’s worth noting that nearly all of them are positive.

On the surface, Jump Adventures has everything players would expect from a standard retro-style 2D platformer. It features limited movement options, hazardous environments to avoid, tricky jumps to make, and, of course, traps to dodge. But Jump Adventures can leave a lasting impression with its hand-drawn visuals and ambient sound design, which make it a borderline cozy game.

Jump Adventures Used to Cost $2.99, Now It’s Totally Free

On September 24, solo developer Daniel Nesov released a new update for Jump Adventures, permanently removing the game’s roughly $3 price tag. Nesov had announced plans to make the game free-to-play in August, but the change didn’t take effect until late September. All Steam users can now play Jump Adventures for free and enjoy the latest update, which improves the visuals and adds a new movement mechanic.

In Jump Adventures, players control a cube that must cross obstacles and traverse different biomes while collecting special items. The cube can use environmental conditions, such as wind, to its advantage to overcome obstacles. More interestingly, players can customize the cube to give it a distinct look, as seen in the game’s trailers. However, players should note that Jump Adventures is a minimalist 2D platformer. While it offers some replayability, the developer describes it as a “bite-sized journey.”

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

Jump Adventures also features Steam achievements and an in-game stats tracker for players who’re looking for some extra challenge in 2D platformer games. Overall, however, the game has a cozy vibe. Unlike many of its peers, it encourages players to take their time and enjoy the scenery as they move from one platform to another. And this relaxed approach makes it easier to overlook a few rough edges, especially since Jump Adventures is the solo developer’s first project.

Other Free Games to Claim on Steam

Those who read this before October 12 can also claim two free games on Steam. Fireside Feelings and Pony Island are currently free to keep, but the promotion is time-limited and ends soon. Players can also find a couple of giveaways in October that offer free Steam keys for other interesting games. On October 28, for example, Lenovo Legion will give away free Steam keys for Doom (2016). However, claiming these keys requires a few extra steps, making the process less straightforward than Steam’s own free-to-keep promotions.
