A Massive Assassin’s Creed Announcement Seems Imminent, New Evidence Suggests

Ubisoft has reportedly registered a domain for the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake. Apart from adding to the growing pile of evidence testifying to the project’s existence, this development also substantiates a previous leak about the name that Ubisoft has allegedly attached to the project.

First rumors about a potential Black Flag remake date back to the tail end of June 2023, when Kotaku’s Ethan Gach broke the story on its existence. However, it took another year for additional evidence supporting the original report to emerge. As of early 2026, the remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is widely considered as one of Ubisoft’s worst-kept secrets among the fandom.

What to Expect From the Assassin’s Creed Franchise in 2025

Ubisoft seems to be going all-in on Assassin’s Creed, with there being at least six AC projects in development, some of which fans might see in 2025.

Possible Black Flag Remake Domain Registered, Contains Previously Leaked Name

Continuing the trend of unofficial breadcrumbs, a new domain for what may end up being the game’s official website has recently been registered. Discovered by Twitter user TheHiddenOneAC, it was registered with Gandi SAS, a French company providing a variety of internet services, ranging from hosting to domain registry. The domain, AssassinsCreedBlackFlagResynced.com, doesn’t yet point to anything but a default domain-name-unavailable message. However, it aligns with one prior leaked detail about the Black Flag remake, matching its changed name spotted in an early December 2025 PEGI listing, which has since been pulled.

Game Rant was able to verify this information, in addition to verifying the TheHiddenOneAC’s other claim: Ubisoft routinely uses Gandi to register new domains. Everything from the main ubisoft.com domain to many of those belonging to subsidiaries like the Star Wars Outlaws developer Massive Entertainment have gone through Gandi for the registration step in the past. More recently, Gandi also updated the ownership of PrinceOfPersiaThesandsOfTime.com, first registered in early 2022, at someone’s behalf. With the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake being heavily rumored for a January 2026 release based on the company’s recent earnings forecasts, the timing is likely not coincidental. Of course, therre is no hard evidence that this domain or the Black Flag Resynced one are actually owned by Ubisoft yet.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced Expected to Release After the Prince of Persia Remake

In a recent financial report, Ubisoft highlighted seven titles that were either released or planned to debut during its ongoing fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2026. Six of those were identified, with only one labeled as an unannounced title. Chronology-wise, the investor presentation pinned its arrival near the very end of the current fiscal year, after the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which is itself still missing a release date. This prompted some speculation about Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced being slated for a late March 2026 launch.

Diving underwater in Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag

Between all these domain registration moves and hints offered via financial earnings, Ubisoft has been quietly updating the original game’s Steam repo going back to at least June 12, 2025, according to SteamDB data. Starting October, the updates to the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Steam repository have been a monthly occurrence. While all of them have been seemingly inconsequential in nature, like introducing a differently formatted trailer, any such activity is unusual to observe when it comes to a game that’s over 12 years old, suggesting Ubisoft may expect an uptick in its page activity in the near future.

Following the latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay, which was pushed from February to March 2025, there was speculation about the move impacting the planned release windows of all future entries in the franchise. Ubisoft de facto confirmed that a few months later; after Shadows debuted to strong reviews and high engagement numbers—reportedly reaching 5 million players by early summer—Ubisoft announced some of its “biggest productions” were delayed to 2026 in an effort to achieve the same level of polish.
