- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s post-launch content is drying up, leaving fans eager for new updates and games.
- Nintendo Switch 2 rumors suggest a March reveal, potentially affecting new Pokemon game reveals on Pokemon Day.
- The Pokemon Company may be forced to withhold details or discuss new games without mentioning platforms due to the Switch 2’s unacknowledged status.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s post-launch content is quickly drying up now that both DLCs are out, and every other active game in the franchise is relying on live-service elements, so many fans are excited about Pokemon Day to discover what’s new in the Pokemon series and what they can expect moving forward. Pokemon Day wish lists currently include all sorts of updates to existing titles as well as new games entirely, such as the Johto and Unova remakes or new entries in the series, although nothing is confirmed just yet. However, based on the many leaks and rumors, the Nintendo Switch 2’s announcement is looming on the horizon, and it could put new Pokemon reveals in a tough spot.
Nintendo Switch 2 rumors started a long while ago, and they intensified in recent months, covering pretty much everything about its screen size, launch price point, and even its possible announcement and release windows. Still, no official word from Nintendo has validated any of these alleged leaks, but the most recent rumor sees the Switch 2 reveal happening in March, just a few weeks after Pokemon Day on February 27. This may have huge implications for any new Pokemon games revealed on Pokemon Day, limiting The Pokemon Company’s capability to provide official details.

Why Pokemon Day is Likely to Reveal New Pokemon Games
What Game Reveals to Expect From Pokemon Day 2024
While nothing official is known about what the Pokemon Day Direct will entail exactly, the possibility that at least one new game is revealed is quite high, considering that no new Pokemon games between now and the release of Gen 10 would mark quite a long period of content drought for the franchise. As such, it’s reasonable to expect Pokemon Day to deliver new titles, such as a new Pokemon Legends game, Unova remakes, Johto Let’s Go games, or something of the sort.
This makes even more sense when keeping an eye on the past few reveals and releases for the franchise, as recent years have been filled with new titles to try out, with Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl coming in November 2021, Pokemon Legends: Arceus in January 2022, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in November 2022. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players flocking back to Sword and Shield after The Indigo Disk due to the endgame grind being better in Gen 8, the franchise may sorely need a new title to keep fans engaged until Gen 10.
Why Pokemon Day’s Reveals Are Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Pokemon Day’s New Game Reveals Depend on The Switch 2’s Announcement
If any new games are revealed on Pokemon Day and the Switch 2’s announcement comes in March, however, The Pokemon Company may be forced to just say that they are coming to the Switch or even not mention platforms at all. It would be odd to have launch details discuss the Switch and ignore an upcoming Switch 2 reveal, and similarly, it could be hard to announce possible Switch 2 launch titles when the console has never been officially acknowledged. This would mean any new titles revealed on Pokemon Day are caught between a rock and a hard place – also in terms of graphics.
If the Switch 2 is retro-compatible with Switch games, a potential trailer could still show Switch graphics and gameplay without impacting the final product, but if this is not the case, then it would be strange to reveal games that play much better than current-gen titles. It could even call for Pokemon Day not to reveal new games and instead, only focus on current celebrations and live-service elements, with new titles being announced separately after the Switch 2 is officially showcased. Either way, this year’s Pokemon Day could be quite strange for long-time Pokemon fans.
