After supporting The Sims 4 for years with countless DLC packs, Maxis is finally preparing to move on to the next chapter with the mysterious Project Rene. Not much is known about this title yet, but it promises to take the life sim franchise to new heights when it finally hits store shelves. And while it remains to be seen if it can actually accomplish that, Project Rene at least feels tailor-made for some exciting crossover content unlike anything the series has seen before.

SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT

Project Rene is likely years away, as it does not even have an official title yet. Luckily, it is not the only Sims content on the horizon, as there are still many DLCs coming for The Sims 4. But that is not all that fans have to look forward to, as Margot Robbie has also attached herself to an upcoming The Sims film. There is almost no news on when the film will actually come out, but when it does, Project Rene will be the perfect way to spotlight it.

Project Rene and The Sims Movie May Take on the Industry Together

Project Rene is Likely Years Away

While fans have had boatloads of The Sims 4 DLC and updates to enjoy over this past decade, some have been looking for something new from Maxis. So, in 2022, the studio finally gave them that with the announcement of Project Rene. This new title is being penned as a next-generation Sims game, and the brief looks at it have shown some promise.

Not only will it allegedly take the life sim to the next level, but it will also give players unprecedented freedom to customize their world how they see fit. If it succeeds on that front, it may be the best in the series to date.

That being said, it will likely be a long time before fans can get their hands on this new Sims title. For starters, Project Rene does not even have an official title yet. Along with that, players have only really gotten to see what the apartment customization looks like through a brief small private playtest, yet it has been almost two years since its announcement. As of now, there seems to be no release date in sight, which means that players may be waiting for a while. Yet, that wait may actually benefit its upcoming film.

Tying The Sims Movie Into It Sounds Like the Perfect Recipe for Success

After the success of Barbie, Margot Robbie seems to have a slew of films on the way, including one based on The Sims franchise. Practically nothing about this film is quite known yet, outside the director and production company. It has not even been confirmed whether Robbie will star in it, but there is a strong chance she will as she is producing it. However, with how long it takes to make films, it may be years before fans see anything more from this title.

If it takes years to make The Sims movie and Project Rene, then they might have the perfect opportunity to launch alongside each other. If moviegoers got to check out an entire film based on the IP and then went home to experience the next generation of the franchise, it could benefit both greatly. Plus, Project Rene could be filled to the brim with crossover content, including an entire family based on the leads of the film.

That way, players could tell their very own
The Sims
movie story, which sounds exactly like something they have already been doing for years.

Even if they do not launch alongside each other, Project Rene will probably still be packed full of references to the film. That will either come in the form of a post-launch update or be a part of the base game, depending upon when either project releases. And if both titles prove successful, then it could make the entire franchise stronger than it has ever been.

The Sims 4 is the latest entry in EA’s iconic social simulation series. Like its predecessors, The Sims 4 lets players create characters known as Sims, with their appearance, dress sense, and personality all being customizable.

The Sims 4’s main innovation to the series was The Gallery, which lets players upload and download custom-made Sims, houses, and other creations.
