The Assassin’s Creed series has spent years moving between different periods of history, but Ubisoft’s next mainline entry is shaping up to be one of its darkest yet. After years of open-world Assassin’s Creed RPGs built around massive maps, sprawling quests, and increasingly complex progression systems, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is reportedly taking the series in a more focused direction. Its 16th-century German setting alone gives it a very different identity, particularly with the game centered around the brutal witch trials of the era.
Ubisoft has revealed very little about what Assassin’s Creed Hexe actually looks like beyond its initial announcement, leaving much of the game’s story to reports and leaks. Previous information has suggested that the protagonist will be a woman accused of witchcraft who must survive a period defined by religious persecution and fear. Now, descriptions from casting calls conducted between 2023 and recent months have reportedly provided a much closer look at the characters surrounding her (although the names used in those casting documents are certainly placeholders).
Assassin’s Creed Hexe Character List
- Annika Adler – “Petra”
- Annika’s Parents – “Konrad” and “Brigitte”
- “Bruno” – Possible Placeholder for Wolfgang
- “Anton” – Possible Placeholder for Wolfgang
- “Johanna”
- “Theo”
- “Erika”
- “Mother Gertrud” – Leader of the Brotherhood?
- “Anna” – Modern-Day Assassin’s Creed Hexe Protagonist
According to MP1st, the protagonist is referred to as “Petra” in the casting material and is described as a strong-willed woman in her mid-twenties who struggles against the restrictive role society has assigned to her. Her family reportedly includes “Brigitte,” a compassionate mother and midwife, and “Konrad,” a deeply religious father who is also described as a caring family man. Konrad’s “dirty job” reportedly connects to previous information suggesting Petra’s father serves as the headsman (executioner) of Neustadt, creating an especially grim family dynamic for Assassin’s Creed Hexe.
Scratch & Peek

The reported character roster gets considerably larger from there. “Bruno” is described as a patriarchal, larger-than-life figure with a crude sense of humor, while “Anton” is an ambitious and seemingly respectable man who operates behind the scenes. Previous leaks have mentioned a character named Wolfgang who could potentially be that character under a different alias; Wolfgang reportedly acts as the mentor to Assassin’s Creed Hexe‘s reported protagonist Annika Adler (“Petra”). Other descriptions include Johanna, a wealthy and morally corrupt manipulator; Theo, Petra’s sensitive younger brother; and Erika, an intelligent but arrogant young woman who is heavily concerned with social status.
One of the more interesting characters reportedly uncovered in the casting descriptions is “Mother Gertrud,” a 65-year-old former village healer whose life was destroyed after a sickness she couldn’t cure spread through her community. The villagers turned against Gertrud and accused her of witchcraft, although she was never officially condemned. Gertrud eventually isolated herself, but her connection to Petra’s family reportedly brings her back into the story. She once taught Petra’s mother about herbs before her daughter abandoned that path to marry, and Gertrud now provides Petra with refuge while she attempts to escape a group called The Order of the Lamb, which could be connected to the Templars (although Assassin’s Creed Valhalla established the Templars’ founding well before this timeline). The story also reportedly sends Petra toward Augsburg, while previous leaks have claimed that Wurzburg would be in the game.
The casting information reportedly offers a glimpse at Assassin’s Creed Hexe‘s modern-day storyline as well, with “Anna” described as an ambitious career woman who doesn’t share the German background of the historical characters. As such, she could be connected to the modern-day Abstergo or Animus Hub portion of the game. None of these character details have been officially confirmed by Ubisoft, and so everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
