Assassin’s Creed Invictus is reportedly not in a good state, according to a well-known Ubisoft leaker. The mysterious Assassin’s Creed project is said to be under review following some disappointing testing, with the situation reportedly serious enough that the game could face a delay or even cancellation.
Assassin’s Creed Invictus was formally announced during the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward showcase. It was presented as part of a multi-game roadmap that also included four other titles, two of which have since been released in the form of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Shadows. Ubisoft framed Assassin’s Creed Invictus as a multiplayer project led by Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind the hit medieval multiplayer action game For Honor. Since then, the company has shared few other official details about the game.

Assassin’s Creed Invictus Latest Playtest Was Reportedly ‘Terrible’
According to previous insider reports, Assassin’s Creed Invictus was originally targeting a 2025 release before being pushed back to 2026. Even that tentative launch target may now slip following the game’s latest reported playtest, according to YouTuber and longtime Ubisoft leaker j0nathan. In a May 2 post on X, j0nathan shared a screenshot of an official-looking email invite for an April 30 Assassin’s Creed Invictus playtest. The PC-only test was “really ******* bad,” the YouTuber claimed, citing a second-hand account.
AC Invictus Could Reportedly Slip Out of 2026, or Worse
As part of the same post, j0nathan backed recent rumors that Assassin’s Creed Invictus had been targeting a 2026 release, describing them as accurate. However, the leaker said the project now has a “good chance” of being delayed or even canceled due to its lackluster state. It is unclear whether that assessment is based on insider information of the kind j0nathan occasionally shares, or whether it is a personal guess. Regardless, the report itself does not inspire confidence in Assassin’s Creed Invictus working as well as Ubisoft likely hoped for following about four years of development.
The partially redacted email invite that j0nathan shared seemingly confirms earlier rumors about Assassin’s Creed Invictus being competitive in nature, describing the unreleased game as an “all-new multiplayer PvP experience” set in the Assassin’s Creed universe. Although the leaked email is in French, it is unclear whether the April 30 playtest was held outside France and/or Canada. Enrollment requirements are also unclear. Many Ubisoft playtests rely on fan sign-ups to create a pool of potential testers, but Ubisoft has not officially offered any pre-registration for Assassin’s Creed Invictus to date.

In the past, j0nathan and several other established leakers have described Assassin’s Creed Invictus as something akin to Mediatonic’s hit Fall Guys. First released in August 2020, Fall Guys is a chaotic multiplayer game that presents platforming challenges in a battle royale format, tasking dozens of players with chasing a golden crown through deadly levels until only one remains. Although such a lighthearted, party-game-style format may seem difficult to reconcile with a comparatively serious franchise like Assassin’s Creed, it would not be entirely without precedent. Ubisoft Halifax and Behaviour Interactive’s Assassin’s Creed Rebellion, originally released for mobile devices in 2018, has already shown that the IP can accommodate more stylized and whimsical interpretations, including chibi-style character designs.
