Despite being over a decade since its release, Assassin’s Creed Unity continues to receive support from Ubisoft, as the studio has once again released a new update for the classic title. This time, however, the latest Assassin’s Creed Unity update is only available to download on Xbox Series X/S, as Ubisoft has addressed an issue specific to the two consoles. Players can download and install the patch right now, which comes in at approximately 0.44 GB on both Series S and X.
With a total of 14 mainline entries since the franchise’s inception in 2007, Assassin’s Creed Unity may be one of the most divisive installments to date. These days, it is remembered much more fondly, but Unity, undoubtedly, had one of the roughest launches of any Assassin’s Creed game to date. Game-breaking bugs, glitchy NPCs, performance issues, and more resulted in negative reviews from both players and critics. However, thanks to a series of patches and continued support from Ubisoft, players can now appreciate the more controlled parkour system and improved stealth that Unity has to offer over its predecessors.

Assassin’s Creed Unity Gets New Update on Xbox Series X/S
On March 24, Ubisoft deployed a new update for Assassin’s Creed Unity, 12 years after the title was launched for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The patch, which brings the game to version 1.6.0.26, is only available to download on Xbox Series X/S, as it fixes a very specific issue related to the two consoles. According to Ubisoft, the update addresses a VFX lighting issue that was affecting characters when playing. Once the latest update, which weighs in at around 0.44GB, has been downloaded, players should no longer run into this issue.

Patch 1.6.0.26 comes just a few weeks after Ubisoft released a massive update for Assassin’s Creed Unity, which unlocked 60 FPS capabilities on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. While the title has always been playable on the consoles via backwards compatibility, it was limited by the restrictions of older hardware, meaning it still only ran at 30 FPS, even on current-gen consoles. Thankfully, those looking to jump back into the French Revolution and experience Paris in 1789 as a stealthy assassin can do just that, now with smooth 60 FPS.
Assassin’s Creed Unity isn’t the only older Ubisoft title to receive an unexpected update over the last year. Back in April 2025, the studio released an unexpected update for Far Cry 4, which added 60 FPS support for PlayStation 5 users. The patch wasn’t made available to those on Xbox Series X/S, but this is likely due to the fact that the console has a built-in FPS boost feature, which has allowed the game to be played at 60 FPS since 2021. Ubisoft has also been working on adding Steam achievements to many of its older titles, such as Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Far Cry 5, and more.
The announcement of a 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Unity came as part of Ubisoft’s roadmap for the future of the series, which also provided an update on the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Hexe and confirmation that one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming, a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, is officially in the works. Ubisoft didn’t reveal much, but it did tease Assassin’s Creed fans, telling them to keep their spyglasses on the horizon, presumably hinting that further details will be shared soon.
