Many want to see Avengers back on the big screen, and one fan suggests in fan art that Colman Domingo can potentially replace Jonathan Majors as Kang The Conqueror in Avengers 5.
Avengers 5 is part of MCU’s Phase 6, and Marvel Studios has decided to move forward with the film after firing Majors, who was supposed to lead the film as Kang the Conqueror. Marvel Studios dropped Majors after he was convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment in a legal dispute with his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Fans are excited to see the Avengers return, and one shared fan art featuring Domingo as Majors’ Kang replacement.
Graphic artist Ben Solo Cup shared a snap of Domingo in Kang’s costume — green suit and matching purple helmet and gloves. The netizen mentioned the rumored casting of Domingo as Kang and how he seemingly approved of it because he stood out when he watched HBO’s Euphoria, suggesting how good of an actor Domingo was. In the HBO series, Domingo portrayed Ali Muhammad, who was a sponsor and mentor to protagonist Rue (Zendaya). The artist said he would be happy if Domingo would be cast for the role before asking the others about their thoughts. Several netizens seemingly shared the same sentiment about Domingo replacing Majors as Kang. One user said the fan art “looks cool.” Another said Domingo’s acting was really good.
The rumors about Domingo potentially replacing Major’s role started from writer and film insider Daniel Richtman. Marvel Studios is reportedly considering Euphoria‘s Emmy-winning star as a replacement for Kang the Conqueror. Domingo’s previous interview with AwardsWatch two years ago fueled the rumor when he was asked about being part of Marvel or DC’s cinematic universe. Domingo said he would jump in because he was already physically fit and wanted to play a villain. Domingo said:
I just want to be the villain. I don’t want to be the good guy. I actually want to do some really nasty, dirty work.
Many fans were sad when Marvel Studios fired Majors because he portrayed the role well. Several even said there was only one Kang for them, and the producers should have given Majors a chance and waited for his return following his conviction. However, that would further delay the production of Avengers 5.
If fans were rooting for Majors for his acting prowess, the same could be said for Domingo. He has already received multiple awards and accolades for his nearly 30 years of acting career, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2022 and Imagen Foundation Awards for Best Supporting Actor – Television (Drama) for his role in Euphoria in 2021. Domingo is currently nominated for Best Actor for the 2024 Critics Choice Awards for his film Rustin. He already won the Spotlight Award from Palm Springs International Film Festival for the same role. Domingo has a credible and impressive track record as an actor. Thus, there is no doubt that he will be as good or even better than Majors in portraying Kang the Conqueror.
