Avowed is shaping up to be a huge release for Xbox Games Studios and Obsidian Entertainment, and a lot of fans are desperate for more information surrounding the project, which is slated for a 2024 release. While a handful of trailers have shed some light on what kind of experience the upcoming game will feature, it seems time for Xbox and Obsidian to finally give an in-depth reveal akin to Starfield‘s time in the spotlight during its own event in 2023.
Avowed should capitalize on the recent lull surrounding Starfield advertising in the wait for its upcoming Shattered Space DLC, since a lot of this freed-up attention can be turned to Avowed with a well-timed Xbox Games Showcase. The fantastical world of Avowed and its complex combat and exploration are deserving of thorough explanations, and an event entirely dedicated to the title in the near future could finally give fans a complete impression of what to expect from it.
Avowed May Have a FromSoftware-esque Poison Swamp
Obsidian’s forthcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed, will be set in an area of an existing world that’s primed for a poison swamp region ala FromSoft games.
Avowed Needs its Own Dedicated Direct Like Starfield Had
It is unsurprising that Starfield had so much dedicated attention from Xbox in the lead up to its release, with the game being the first brand-new IP to come from Bethesda in over 25 years. The huge range of gameplay possibilities within Starfield needed a lot of direct communication between Bethesda and the game’s fans. Starfield‘s 1,000+ planets is just one example of the title’s scale.
Of course, Starfield also made the bold decision of being an Xbox and PC exclusive release, giving Microsoft all the more reason to push its promotional material to the next level. The upcoming Avowed also falls under the Xbox Games Studio umbrella, after Obsidian Entertainment was acquired by Microsoft in 2018. Microsoft likely hopes that Avowed can provide the expansive fantasy RPG experience that players want in the downtime before the release of Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls 6, making the success of the title all the more important.
Starfield got its own dedicated direct presentation in June 2023, taking place on the same day as an expansive Xbox Games Showcase event, and Microsoft should repeat this strategy for Avowed in the near future. Xbox has confirmed that it hopes to hold another Xbox Games Showcase in June of this year, and this would be the perfect time to give Avowed its most expansive presentation to date.
Avowed Can Build a Huge Amount of Hype With its Own Event
Avowed was announced at an Xbox Games Showcase in 2020 with a brief trailer, with a follow-up gameplay trailer releasing in June 2023. Like the Starfield direct, a direct presentation for Avowed could delve deeper into the wider narrative of the upcoming project, as well as its skill trees, combat variety, and scale. There is still so much about Avowed that has not been given enough elaboration, and this would need to come quickly if the game hopes to meet its anticipated 2024 release window.
Starfield‘s direct presentation was a huge success for the title’s pre-release hype, and the same feat could easily be repeated if Avowed is afforded a similar event in the future. Many sections of the industry are already billing Avowed as the next big thing for Microsoft, and utilizing the attention of an Xbox Games Showcase to push even more eyes on the project with its own event would be a smart move to really get pre-release hype building for the project.
