Infernal Iron & Infernal Alloy

Infernal Iron and Infernal Alloy are the first infernal materials you should encounter. Infernal Alloy can only be acquired from Stonemaster Kith in Grymforge during Act 1. Pass the three speech checks, buy them, or kill him to take them from his corpse. Infernal Iron is the most basic form of this material and can be found as early as Act 1. There are multiple places to find the iron, and it is important for you to do so.

During Act 2, you will meet the blacksmith Dammon at the Last Light Inn. If you have Karlach with you, he will offer to help repair her Infernal Engine. He will need two Infernal Iron to complete this task and buy her more time.

If you have more than the necessary amount or don’t have Karlach, you can trade in the iron for armor. He will use each piece of Infernal Iron to make a part of the Flawed Helldusk Armor set. This is a heavy armor set that is best acquired early on as it can be very powerful during Act 2. Its usefulness wanes later on as you can acquire the true Helldusk set. If you have the Infernal Alloy, he can create the Gloves, Helmet, and Chest piece all at once by using it.

Enriched Infernal Iron

Enriched Infernal Iron is a specific type of this material only found in Act 3. The material can be looted from destroyed Steel Watchers. These hulking automatons guard the streets for Lord Gortash and uphold his tyrannical rule.

It’s not a good idea to take on Steel Watchers in the streets of the Lower City. You should complete the quest to disable the Steel Watcher foundry. This will destroy all the watchers, leaving them slumped on the streets. You can then loot Enriched and standard Infernal Iron off of them.

Unfortunately, there is no current use for the Enriched Infernal Iron to create better armor or help Karlach. You can sell it for a pretty decent price at shops around Baldur’s Gate. Its value can be enhanced by selling it with high Persuasion characters. Sell it and all your extra infernal material to Dammon in Act 3 to afford his expensive armor.
