The Regent is one of the two new characters in Slay the Spire 2, and while their power is undeniable, the character can also be pretty confusing to use. In addition to the regular gameplay mechanics in Slay the Spire 2, The Regent offers some new mechanics that change up your entire run. This can make building out your deck and choosing Relics more complicated than you’re used to.
Whether you’re struggling with The Regent or you just want some advice on how to build out the character in Slay the Spire 2, you’re in the right place. Below, we’ll go through the best deck, Relics, and strategies to use with The Regent.
How to build The Regent in Slay the Spire 2
A majority of the best builds for The Regent revolve around the Stars mechanic. This is unique to the character, and it encompasses most of what The Regent has to offer in Slay the Spire 2.
Stars are essentially a secondary resource for The Regent alongside the standard energy used to play cards, and your deck should be optimized to obtain and utilize Stars in a variety of ways. Naturally, you’ll want to search for cards that allow you to gain Stars, as this will help set up the rest of your deck so you can use those Stars later on during a fight.
With The Regent, you can either decide to immediately use the Stars you produce or save them up to unleash powerful spells. Of course, if you want to save up Stars, then you’ll have to find ways to stall enemies using other cards, which mostly relies around playing defense and dealing chip damage. Notably, you want to make use of Strike and Defend cards, as these are great to use in the early turns and allow you to bide time until you can build up a solid amount of Stars.
As for what to do with your built-up Stars, you mainly want to take advantage of the Stardust card. This is a spell card that deals five damage to an enemy (10 damage when upgraded), and the number of times you attack depends on your Star accumulation. You can also apply some nerfs to an enemy beforehand, such as Weak and Vulnerable, to make an enemy even more susceptible to Stardust.
Understanding how to accumulate Stars and what to do with them is the biggest learning curve that you’ll face as you play The Regent. However, with the right deck, your job is made fairly easy, so let’s go over the cards you want to pick up throughout Slay the Spire 2.
Best cards for The Regent in Slay the Spire 2
The Regent’s deck can basically be split up into three categories: Star cards, defense cards, and damage spells. Your Star cards are what you use at the start of a fight, while your damage spells make use of all the Stars you acquire to blow enemies away and end the fight. Finally, defense cards are what you can use to survive or stall a fight to try and build up more Stars for later down the line.
