A weird bug in Paralives is causing a bald and nude Parafolk called Charlie to randomly appear in households. While the bug has been acknowledged by the developers of Paralives, as of this publication, it remains unfixed and could pop up for anyone.
Paralives has been doing quite well already, but it’s currently in early access, and most early access games are expected to have bugs. Paralives is no exception to this, with players eagerly sharing bug reports with the developer since the game’s launch on May 25. While most of these bugs are pretty common and explainable gameplay issues, this particular issue has struck players as bizarre.

Paralives Games Invaded by Bizarre Glitched Character
Paralives players on social media have been reporting the existence of a bizarre bugged Para named Charlie that spontaneously appears in-game. While it’s not unheard of for glitched Sims to appear in The Sims 4, and thus not entirely bizarre for it to happen in Paralives, this one is particularly strange, as the Para appears completely nude, with no hair, and no personality stats. Weirdly, Charlie has been “invading” players’ games by suddenly appearing in their Para households. While Charlie doesn’t cause any actual damage to the game, it’s understandable that their presence has struck players as bizarre.

It seems that Charlie appears specifically when players are expecting a new member of their family, but don’t quite get to that point during their gameplay, or they fail to save. Numerous players have reported that Charlie appeared after performing actions like reloading a save after giving up a kid to child services, after the game crashes when trying to adopt or have children in Paralives, or from reloading a prior save after having a child. The Charlie bug has been around since the game’s launch, but as yet, hasn’t been fixed. However, the developers are aware of the bug, and told PC Gamer that they plan on fixing it soon.
Apparently, Charlie is something of a placeholder, with a last name set to just “Default.” In the event that the players quit or crash, and then reload their save after giving birth or adopting a child, Charlie will appear where the child should have been. Essentially, if the game has data indicating that a new character should be there, but no data was saved, Charlie will appear instead. The developers haven’t warned of any particular complications of having Charlie appear, so presumably, it’s safe to keep them in the family. It’s not clear if existing Charlies will disappear once a bug fix is issued, however.

For now, if players want to avoid getting jumpscared by a nude Para, they should make sure to save their game after any Para gives birth or adopts a child. That should allow the game to record important data about the person, and thus a placeholder won’t be needed. For now, though, players who haven’t heard of Charlie and see the Para unexpectedly show up are comparing it to weird glitches like Pokemon‘s Missingno, which appeared due to the games trying to access invalid or missing data.
