IO Interactive’s CEO has just doubled down on the studio’s promise to port 007 First Light to Nintendo Switch 2. 007 First Light‘s Nintendo Switch 2 version was first announced in the April 2025 Nintendo Direct, and while official information on the port has been somewhat scarce in the year since, it seems things are shaping up well in development.
An origin story for the iconic British spy, 007 First Light is currently set to release on May 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game’s narrative will see players assume the role of a 26-year-old version of the titular protagonist, earning his 00 status for the very first time. Gameplay-wise, 007 First Light looks to be a thrilling mix of Hitman‘s social stealth mechanics, Uncharted‘s action set pieces, and an assortment of all-new, innovative action adventure game mechanics.

IO Interactive CEO Reiterates 007 First Light is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 This Year
In a recent interview with The Game Business, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak was asked about 007 First Light‘s Nintendo Switch 2 port. Initially, 007 First Light was planned to arrive on Switch 2 at the same time as PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 27, but developer IO Interactive stated early last month that the port had been delayed to summer 2026.

In response to The Game Business asking if 007 First Light‘s Nintendo Switch 2 port was following in the footsteps of the ill-fated Borderlands 4 Switch 2 port — which was delayed indefinitely — Hakan Abrak had this to say:
“It’s running on the Switch 2. We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be. I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version. To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It’s probably going to be late summer. But we’re going to get it out. Bond has a special place on Nintendo. And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.”
While it’s not an announcement of a concrete release date, this statement from IO Interactive’s CEO is an undeniably positive one for Nintendo Switch 2 owners. It may take some time before Switch 2 players will be able to get their hands on 007 First Light, but when they eventually do, it sounds like it won’t be a sub-par version that’s been rushed out of the door.
With a “late summer” release window, it’s looking like fans could see 007 First Light on Switch 2 sometime between August and September. The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t have much lined up for those months, with Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 (August 27) being the only major release currently confirmed for the platform. That said, PS5 owners will have Phantom Blade Zero and Marvel’s Wolverine to play in September.

As well as peeling back the curtain on 007 First Light‘s Nintendo Switch 2 port, Hakan Abrak spoke with The Game Business about the possibility of developing a sequel to this upcoming James Bond video game adaptation. Abrak stated that development of the game has continued smoothly through the recent acquisition of the Bond IP by Amazon and that “if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community” a sequel to First Light could be on the cards in the future.
