March 26 is gearing up to be a big day for Borderlands 4 players with the launch of Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned Story Pack, a major update, and now, a big level upgrade. Despite a number of fan frustrations and controversies surrounding Borderlands 4 following its launch in 2025, Gearbox has hit the ground running in 2026 to keep players happy. March is proving to be a big month already, following the launch of the second Bounty Pack and the upcoming launch of the game’s first expansion.
After a tease early in February, Gearbox has fully revealed Borderlands 4‘s first Story Pack as Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. Launching on March 26, the premium content is offering players a new campaign featuring a bunch of new and returning characters like Ellie, Mancubus Bloodtooth, Pickle, Crazy Earl, and more. Naturally, there will be plenty of new cosmetics and loot to discover, including legendary and pearlescent rarity gear while players work through the new map known as the Whispering Glacier. However, new content is only part of the story for March 26 as Gearbox is also planning on dropping a major update as well.
Borderlands 4 Players Have the Chance to Get a Free Vault Hunter Skin, But There’s a Catch
Gearbox is giving Borderlands 4 players a new skin called “Luck of the Kairish” for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday but there’s a catch.
Borderlands 4 Is Raising the Level Cap for Players
With anticipation for the upcoming content continuing to grow, Gearbox is pulling back the curtain on even more features and changes coming to Borderlands 4. In a new post, Gearbox has revealed that the current level cap in Borderlands 4 is finally being raised, going from 50 to 60 when the big March 26 update arrives. This will give players an additional 10 levels to earn and spend skill points to further empower their Vault Hunter. For those who never quite made it to the cap, which did require players to continue playing long after the campaign was finished, the amount of DLC now in the game should help make that trek even easier.
Following the reveal of the Mad Ellie content, Gearbox has been detailing other parts of the March 26 update, including the previously mentioned level cap increase. While increasing the level cap is common for Borderlands DLC, the update will be available for all players, regardless if Story Pack 1 has been purchased or not. Players should make sure they have about 20GB of space available as well. In terms of what else is included within the update, fans will need to wait a bit longer for the patch notes to arrive closer to launch.

The other big piece coming with the Story Pack is a brand-new vault hunter. C4SH was revealed for Borderlands 4 last year, but details surrounding who he is and what he can do finally started to arrive this week. The former CasinoBot relies on luck and a bit of unpredictability, as his kit includes dual revolvers, a deck of cards, and dice. Interestingly enough, Gearbox removed capstone abilities for each of C4SH’s 3 skill trees and instead, players can unlock up to 4 total Augment slots by building across all three skill trees. Combined with his Cleromancy, Sleight of Hand, or Cross-Fire action skills, players can build into some super powerful effects and skills with C4SH.
According to Gearbox’s 2026 roadmap for Borderlands 4, Story Pack 1 is just the beginning. Starting in Q2, fans will be seeing the second raid boss to join Borderlands 4 alongside Bloomreaper the Invincible. Bounty Pack 3 will be joined by a free Takedown event, while Q3 will not only see 2 additional paid Bounty Packs, but the second Story Pack as well. It’s there that Borderlands 4 will be getting its second DLC character as well, though unlike how Gearbox shared C4SH details very early on, the developer hasn’t shown anything related to what fans can expect.
