Borderlands 4 Post-Launch Content Announcement is Good News for Fans

Gearbox announces that a new Bounty Pack is being added to the post-launch content plans for Borderlands 4, since the first one is going free to all players. As fans continued to grow a bit agitated by the relative silence from Gearbox Software over Borderlands 4, the studio surprised players with not just a new update, but the release of Bounty Pack 1 as a free gift to everyone.

Originally intended to be a premium DLC add-on, How Rush Saved Mercenary Day arrived in Borderlands 4 as a free thank-you gift to players instead. Intended to be a smaller in scope DLC pack, players will be taking part in the Borderlands franchise’s fictional Mercenary Day holiday season to take on an enemy known as Mister Screw. The Outbounders leader, Rush, will be taking a prominent role in the story and players can loot tons of new content including skins, attachments, vehicles, and 4 “re-rollable” legendary weapons. However, for those that paid extra for add-ons like the Deluxe Edition, Super Deluxe Edition, or Bounty Pack Bundle, it seemed like they were losing 1 piece of DLC.

Borderlands 4 Sparks a New Debate, and It’s Not About Endgame

A new debate emerges among Borderlands 4 players revolving around the franchise’s planets and how they relate to its core identity.

Borderlands 4 Adding a Bounty Pack 5 as Future DLC

Originally part of Borderlands 4‘s post-launch DLC roadmap, Bounty Pack 1 was intended to be paid content that was included in the Deluxe Edition, Super Deluxe Edition, or Bounty Pack Bundle. Since that is no longer the case, Gearbox confirmed in its latest weekly blog that the studio is adding a fifth Bounty Pack to be released sometime in 2026 to make good on the promise of 4 premium packs for those players who choose to spend more to upgrade. Ultimately, those special edition owners are now getting a total of 5 Bounty Packs in total.

The confirmation from Gearbox should ease some of the worry from players who felt like they paid more and were getting less than they were promised initially. In fact, the DLC switch was previously hinted at in the updated Borderlands 4 2026 roadmap, which was updated to include the now free Bounty Pack 1 update as well as adding in the “Beyond Q1 2026” section.

Borderlands 4 updated endgame roadmap

Following the game’s launch, Gearbox’s first attempt at DLC was the Horrors of Kairos event, a Halloween-inspired update for Borderlands 4. While past games have also added Halloween events, fans were seemingly down on Borderlands 4‘s take on it, with many calling the event underwhelming and generally limited. Players essentially had to grind special world bosses that would appear around the map randomly, offering loot that was viewed as being on the weaker side. Either way, fans are hopeful that the Bounty Pack will offer more meaningful content that was ultimately missing in Horrors of Kairos.

The endgame of Borderlands 4 has left many players frustrated, as a common criticism is that there just isn’t much to do outside a weekly mission and farmable boss. For those who wanted more, Bounty Pack 1 does just that, though December also promises the first Invincible Boss encounter in Borderlands 4. The Bloomreaper free update will add the high-level boss to the game, promising new legendary weapons for those who can overcome the challenge. The update will also include an additional Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode level as well, letting players push their builds even further.
