The official release of Braid: Anniversary Edition has been delayed and will now launch on May 14. Popular indie title Braid was set to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch on April 30 as a new, remastered version of the iconic puzzle platformer. However, developer Thekla, Inc. confirmed that the upcoming release has been hit with a significant delay.


Braid emerged on the indie scene back in 2008 and was originally released as part of the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade service. Due to its fun gameplay, wonderful art style, and clever mechanics, Braid quickly turned heads. Over a decade later, Braid: Anniversary Edition was announced, with developers teasing that some major changes were coming as part of this special release.

Anticipation for Braid: Anniversary Edition has been high, with the original Braid becoming one of the most successful indie games of all time. However, this new version of the game has been delayed, with developers confirming that Braid: Anniversary Edition will miss its original target date of April 30 and instead launch on May 14, 2024. As part of this announcement, creator and developer Jonathan Blow announced that Braid: Anniversary Edition will feature many new and exciting features, including 40 brand-new and/or alternate redesigns of the iconic original levels.



Braid: Anniversary Release Date

While Braid: Anniversary Edition will preserve the experience and integrity of the original game, this remastered version will offer players a lot of new areas to explore, as well as items to collect. Braid: Anniversary Edition will also include over 15 hours of commentary from Braid creator Jonathan Blow, Brian Moriarty, Casey Muratori, Frank Cifaldi, and others.

Graphics will be hand-repainted by original artist David Hellman. Thekla, Inc. is also promising to deliver smoother in-game motion thanks to extra frames being added to the animations. Players will be able to switch back and forth between both versions of Braid in real-time as well. The game will ship with 13 new levels and 16 new puzzle pieces, all of which will enhance Braid‘s beloved gameplay style. Braid: Anniversary Edition will also come equipped with improved audio and new sound mixes, as well as special variants of the game’s original soundtrack.
