PlayStation 5 gamers have a brand-new horror game to play that has become one of the highest-rated new game releases of the year. The PlayStation 5 is home to all kinds of high-quality horror games, with some releasing just this past year. Of course, the headlining new horror game of 2026 has got to be Resident Evil Requiem, but it certainly hasn’t been alone.
Just recently, Silent Hill: Townfall released as a PS5 console exclusive, giving fans of the franchise yet another spooky adventure to experience. Silent Hill: Townfall earned mostly positive reviews from critics, with many hailing it as a successful translation of the Silent Hill formula to first-person. Silent Hill: Townfall and Resident Evil Requiem are the highest-profile new horror games released for PS5 in 2026, but they have been joined by a variety of smaller-scale games that nevertheless have proven to be worthy entries to the genre, like Crisol: Theater of Idols and Sinking City 2, just to name a couple.

Now yet another high-quality new horror game has hit the market in the form of Silver Pines. Silver Pines is a Metroidvania survival-horror game for PS5 and other platforms that looks like it has serious Twin Peaks vibes. In typical survival-horror fashion, Silver Pines challenges players to manage their resources while fighting monsters and solving puzzles. The Metroidvania layout goes a long way in helping it stand out from other games in the genre and establish its own identity. The stylized art is icing on the cake, with the overall package coming together to create an excellent horror game. This has been reflected by the Silver Pines reviews, with the game earning an impressive 88 overall rating on review aggregate site OpenCritic – an average that includes multiple 10/10 scores.

Silver Pines reviews praise the game for its Twin Peaks style and blending survival-horror mechanics with Metroidvania exploration. There have been horror-themed Metroidvania games in the past, but it seems Silver Pines is the best version of the concept that has been released thus far, if the reviews are any indication. It’s worth noting that the game has also been well-received by gamers in general, as it currently has a “Very Positive” overall rating on Steam. On the PS5 PlayStation Store, Silver Pines currently has a 4.92 rating (an astonishing 98%), making it one of the highest-rated games on the entire platform.
PS5 gamers should certainly consider checking out Silver Pines if they are wanting a fresh horror experience. Luckily, those on other platforms can play Silver Pines as well. Silver Pines is readily available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, so horror fans can play it on their platform of choice.
Silver Pines is the latest horror game to release for the PS5, but it’s not the only one to launch for the console in October. Hellraiser: Revival was also recently released for PS5, and while it earned more mixed reviews, many have agreed that it is a solid time for fans of the franchise.
