A recent leak suggests Nintendo is preparing to release a special edition Switch 2 console in the near future. Nintendo has a long history of releasing special editions of its consoles, though none have been officially revealed for the Switch 2 just yet. The Switch 2 is just over a year old at this point, so it’s understandable that Nintendo hasn’t put out a special edition, but chances are that will change sooner rather than later.
Recently, it was leaked that Nintendo is going to release a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console. The Zelda-themed console will presumably be released to coincide with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, itself currently without a release date. Nintendo’s tendency to have one major game release per month suggests that the game will be out in November, though, and that may also be the perfect time to release the leaked Zelda Switch 2 console.
Zelda-Themed Switch 2 Leaked
Images of the unannounced Zelda Switch 2 console have recently leaked online, showing off a device with a black/green/gold aesthetic. The Joy-Cons are specially-themed as is the Switch 2’s dock, with both featuring the franchise’s iconic Triforce symbol. Notably, the Zelda-themed Switch 2 console appears to be themed after the franchise in general, not necessarily Ocarina of Time, which helps lend credibility to the idea that a Zelda-focused Direct is happening soon. The most likely scenario is the Switch 2 Zelda console will cost $499.99, just like the standard Switch, but that is just speculation at this time. While it seems unlikely, it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that Nintendo will charge more for the device.

Besides a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, a new Pro Controller has also leaked online. The leaked Switch 2 Pro Controller is also Zelda-themed, with its design echoing the special edition console. Switch 2 Pro Controllers cost $89.99, so expect the Zelda-themed variant to cost that much as well.
The question remains when exactly Nintendo will reveal this new hardware. Rumors point to a potential Nintendo Direct in September that could be entirely Zelda-focused. If that’s the case, it would make sense for such an event to not only feature the first proper look at the Ocarina of Time remake, but also the reveal of the Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller. Such an event has not been officially confirmed at the time of this writing, but considering Nintendo’s history of hosting Direct events in September, it would be more surprising if one didn’t take place.
A Zelda-themed makeover isn’t the only change coming to the Switch 2 soon. Nintendo is raising the price of the Switch 2 to $499.99 starting September 1. While this is disappointing news for those that have yet to buy Nintendo’s latest home console/handheld hybrid, the good news is that it will come with a new money-saving bundle where new adopters can pick one out of three games to get with their Switch 2 at no additional cost: Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, or Pokemon Pokopia. These three games are generally considered the must-haves for Switch 2 owners, and so getting one for free is a steal, to say the least.
