PlayStation has just announced its next State of Play, and it’s set to revolve around the long-awaited PS5 console exclusive Phantom Blade Zero. Airing on August 17 in the US, the next PlayStation State of Play will offer a “much closer look” at what players can expect from Phantom Blade Zero ahead of its launch on October 29.
First teased all the way back in November 2016 and then unveiled fully in the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming action-RPG that belongs to the wuxia genre. During last year’s Game Awards, Phantom Blade Zero received an official release date of September 9, 2026, but in June of this year, the game was delayed to October. In an open statement, developer S-Game’s CEO said that this delay was being used to deliver “clearly defined and genuinely important improvements” to the long-awaited PS5 and PC game.
PlayStation Announces Phantom Blade Zero State of Play
- Airs August 17 at 7pm PT / 10pm ET
Announced via a PlayStation Blog post, Phantom Blade Zero will be getting its very own “gameplay deep dive” State of Play on August 17. This news was accompanied by a lengthy 11-minute trailer, showcasing an extended look at one of Phantom Blade Zero‘s earliest action sequences. According to S-Game founder & CEO Soulframe Liang, even this extended Phantom Blade Zero trailer “isn’t enough to cover our intricate gameplay systems, dynamic combat, and the dark wuxia land we call the Phantom World,” which is why the team is delivering a deep dive State of Play next week.

While the length and exact content of the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero State of Play are currently unknown, the PlayStation Blog post does state that it’ll introduce “never-before-seen characters central to [the] story,” and will show “just how expressive players can be with their individual builds.” These little tidbits suggest that fans will get some new Phantom Blade Zero story details and plenty of gameplay footage in the next PlayStation State of Play.
An interesting detail that was just revealed in the latest Phantom Blade Zero trailer and its accompanying blog post is that world-famous martial artist and director Donnie Yen has been serving as a creative consultant on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023. Along with helping to “deliver an authentic kung fu experience,” Donnie Yen has provided the facial and motion capture work for Mó Yuan, the father of Phantom Blade Zero‘s protagonist.
Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Are Live
This new trailer ends with the confirmation that pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero are live right now. The Standard Edition of Phantom Blade Zero retails for $59.99, while the Deluxe Edition costs $69.99. The latter version of the game will grant players two new outfits, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack. Pre-ordering either version of Phantom Blade Zero will give players the Legacy outfit and the Treasure Basin accessory, both of which can be obtained through regular gameplay progression.
