Canyons, a new co-op looter shooter from the creators of Breathedge, has confirmed a November 2027 release date. The game has caught the attention of many PvE TPS fans with its intriguing premise, which has been described by some people as Helldivers meets Fallout and World War Z. Alongside the release date announcement, Canyons also shared a new trailer showcasing its co-op multiplayer for the first time.

The game is set in an apocalyptic world conquered by the Awakened, creatures that possess inanimate objects and structures. This explains why Canyons‘ trailers often show Crusaders fighting what appear to be hostile pieces of furniture. The game also features zombie-like enemies that attack in massive hordes, much like the swarming zombies in games like World War Z.

Canyons Is Coming to Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox

The latest trailer for Canyons has confirmed its November 2027 release date and reaffirmed its platforms: PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. As a co-op survival game, Canyons will support teams of up to four players, but players can also experience the entire game solo.

While the full gameplay loop remains partially unconfirmed, it appears players in Canyons will explore procedurally generated maps with Crawlers in search of loot and gear. Crawlers come equipped with a range of weapons and can be upgraded with additional artillery. Canyons also has some base-building elements, allowing players to build a settlement called Haven of the Covenant, where they can recruit survivors and unlock new features, including trading.

Canyons’ Gameplay Features

  • Players can explore a procedurally generated world at their own pace
  • Each expedition can last as long as players want, but enemies will gradually become more violent, increasing the risk
  • The primary goal of each expedition is to find loot and resources
  • Players can return to their base after each expedition
  • The base can be expanded and upgraded to unlock new functions
  • Players can upgrade their Crawler machines with new weapons and utility items
  • Some of the Awakened can form bonds with players and grant them special abilities in exchange for something

Canyons has intriguing lore that shares some similarities with games like Helldivers 2. The world has collapsed, water has become scarce, and the Awakened continue to kill survivors. A new human alliance, known as the Order of the Double Cross, has emerged, with its soldiers calling themselves Crusaders. These soldiers can form pacts with some of the Awakened to “wield their strange might.” The faction also resembles Helldivers 2‘s Ministry of Defense, particularly in its emphasis on brother-in-arms philosophy.

Developer RedRuins Softworks redesigned Canyons and reintroduced it in November 2025. The original concept was closer to standard extraction shooter games. The team described the initial idea as “riding Crawlers through hordes of zombies,” but it faced technical issues, and the developers felt it lacked originality. As a result, Canyons has shifted toward richer lore, with the Awakened at the center of its world and the Order of the Double Cross playing a major role in gameplay. With all these changes, it remains to be seen how fans of the PvE shooter games will respond when Canyons launches in November 2027.
