A brand-new indie survival horror game called White Creek has been announced for the Sega Dreamcast and modern platforms like PlayStation and Xbox. White Creek is a third-person adventure set in a mysterious setting inspired by genre staples on the Sega Dreamcast.
White Creek is being developed by a small team called Story Bird Studios. The game’s director is Bruno Rocca, who is also a published author with a couple of books about video games. When naming the inspirations behind White Creek, Rocca said, “The Resident Evil and Silent Hill series, which have fascinated me from the start, as well as David Lynch’s films, J-Horror, and so on.”
White Creek Is Coming to Sega Dreamcast Soon
Story Bird Studios plans to release a physical version of White Creek for the nearly 30-year-old Sega Dreamcast console. According to the developer, the team built the game for the console and kept its capabilities in mind during the design process. Early trailers show that White Creek will feature tank controls like classic Resident Evil games. It will also take place in an eerie, abandoned town that shares its name with the game and may remind fans of the early Silent Hill titles.

The story follows a female protagonist named Alicia Morelli. She is a professional exorcist with psychic powers. Alicia must enter the bizarre town of White Creek and face a dark force that seems to have possessed all the townsfolk. Like many survival horror games from the Dreamcast era, White Creek also features third-person shooter elements, with Alicia able to use a couple of different weapons. She can also use her phone to capture anomalies or find clues that help her solve puzzles. However, one of the most intriguing gameplay features in White Creek is protagonist Alicia’s exorcism abilities.

White Creek features a unique mechanic that is uncommon in classic horror games. Protagonist Alicia can choose to save the souls of zombie-like, possessed enemies by performing an exorcism ritual or simply shoot them. However, the game’s official description hints at possible risks when attempting to save people’s souls. It does not explain how an exorcism session might go wrong. Still, it seems Alicia’s powers could backfire and cause her to lose her own soul.
White Creek Plans to Release a Demo Soon
According to the developers, White Creek will receive a free playable demo around Halloween or in late October. The demo will also mark the start of White Creek‘s Kickstarter campaign, which will help the team secure funds for the rest of the game’s production. While the developers have not explicitly confirmed it, the demo seems likely to be exclusively available on Steam. But White Creek will eventually launch on the Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and GOG.
