Eternal Hunters: The Branford Legacy is an upcoming action role-playing game developed natively for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Eternal Hunters has no release date at the time of writing, but it’s been confirmed to support both solo and co-op play on the original Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

French developer Ultima Team describes Eternal Hunters as a Zelda-like adventure with real-time combat and no turn-based encounters. Some fans, on the other hand, have compared it to early Chrono titles, and the developers have actually acknowledged Chrono Trigger‘s influence on the game’s art direction and story.

The new trailer for Eternal Hunters reveals the co-protagonists, Duncan and Clive, and the main plot, which revolves around time travel. Players can see the two heroes work together to defeat demons and powerful bosses using a combination of direct melee attacks and spells. Co-op play has been officially confirmed, and players will likely have the option to let the CPU control the other character in the solo mode. Eternal Hunters may not be as long as classic RPGs like Final Fantasy, but developer Ultima Team has revealed that the team plans to offer at least 20 hours of gameplay.

Ultima Team recently let fans play the first demo of Eternal Hunters at Hedge’Conv, a recurring French retro gaming convention. No footage of the demo appears to have been shared publicly at the time of writing, but the team is expected to reveal more details in the near future. Ultima Team has also found a new partner, Story Bird Studios, an indie developer currently working on an upcoming Dreamcast game called White Creek. It remains to be seen how the partnership will work out and whether Story Bird Studios will use its expertise to bring Eternal Hunters to other retro consoles in the future.

Since Eternal Hunters was developed natively for the SNES, it is unlikely to arrive on modern consoles or PCs at launch. However, developer Ultima Team has confirmed that if the game meets its expectations, the studio will consider porting it to Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and other modern platforms. This decision also depends on the outcome of the Kickstarter campaign the team plans to launch soon to fund the project.

For accuracy, Eternal Hunters‘ October 2026 announcement marks its second official reveal. The game was semi-officially unveiled at the 2025 Hedge’Conv in France, but it had no English voiceover or text and went largely unnoticed by Western outlets. The second reveal, however, includes an English version and seems to be attracting more attention from fans of retro-style RPGs. People who want to support the project when the Kickstarter campaign goes live can already sign up for developer Ultima Team’s newsletter by filling out a quick online form.
