Bounce Quest is a 2025 2D platformer on Steam that claims to be incredibly hard to beat, and it is now free for all users to try. The game launched on Steam with a $4.99 price tag, but it has recently joined the platform’s lineup of free titles.

Developer Nozech describes Bounce Quest as “a brutally challenging platformer where you explore a treacherous mountain to uncover what lies at the top.” Like some other nerve-racking climbing games, Bounce Quest comes with a catch: a fall can sometimes erase all the player’s progress and set them far back.

Bounce Quest Became Free-to-Play on Steam on October 13

The developer has not disclosed why Bounce Quest dropped its $4.99 price tag. However, SteamDB data confirms that the change took effect on October 13. Bounce Quest has few user reviews on Steam, but the handful it has received seem incredibly positive. Some players have also suggested that it is indeed a challenging 2D platformer. One user wrote, “I can’t say I enjoyed this one, and my desk had a hard time, but I definitely recommend checking it out.”

In Bounce Quest, players control a bouncy cube whose main moves are jumping, sliding, and smashing. But the gameplay mostly depends on how they time their jumps, how far they jump, and where they land. The character’s bouncy nature helps it clear obstacles, but it can also backfire and send it flying in the opposite direction. In other words, an ill-timed jump or rough landing can cause players to fall and lose progress. The developer also warns that “the higher you go, the harder you will fall.”

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

Bounce Quest is not an arcade game where players only aim to score points by climbing as high as possible. The developer says a secret awaits at the top of the mountain that players are trying to climb. So, as its title suggests, Bounce Quest is a linear 2D platformer with six unique areas to explore. Players looking for extra content may also appreciate the dozen different skins they can unlock for the protagonist.

Steam users might also be interested to know that Bounce Quest isn’t the only 2D platformer to recently become free. Another game, Jump Adventures, features similar gameplay and aesthetics and has also dropped its price on Steam. Together, the two titles offer hours of free content, especially for players who enjoy cozy-looking games that constantly push them to rage-quit. Those looking for a more arcade-style experience, however, can check out Cartomancy Anthology on Steam, another paid game that recently became free. Cartomancy Anthology is a collection of more than 20 small games, most of which offer a relaxed gameplay experience.
