CD Projekt Red has issued an exciting new update on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, confirming a few important features for the upgrade. Arriving later this month, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is bringing some important enhancements to the classic 2015 RPG, and developer CD Projekt Red has quickly provided clarification on some prevalent fan questions.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered was announced as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live last week. It came as a big surprise to attendees, and with the Songs of the Past DLC on the way next year, it’s the perfect way for the game to be modernized before then. The remaster comes with existing expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, both of which are critically acclaimed.
The Witcher 3 Saves and Achievements Carry Over to Remaster
In a statement on X, CD Projekt Red officially confirmed that players’ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt save files will carry over to the remaster, allowing players to continue where they left off without having to start all over again. Given that the remaster’s announcement came as such a big surprise, there may have been some who were mid-playthrough while preparing for the new Songs of the Past DLC, so it’s cool that players are no longer faced with the prospect of choosing between continuing on an inferior version of the game or restarting their playthrough.
The developer also confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered achievements and trophies will carry over, too. This confirmation has been met with more of a mixed response among the player base. It’s ideal for those who are mid-way through completing the achievement list, sure. However, as some of the responses to CD Projekt Red’s post shows, there are players who have already completed the achievements, and want the remaster to provide a 100% fresh list to complete all over again. Whether this is a good or a bad thing probably comes down to the individual, but it’s good to have clarification on the game’s approach regardless.
It’s cool to see the small Witcher 3 Remastered details start to be revealed by the developer. The game is already one of the best RPGs ever made, so to think that the definitive way to experience it is just around the corner is very exciting. Hopefully, there are still plenty of surprises in store for fans when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29, 2026.
With all the excitement surrounding The Witcher 3 Remastered at the moment, it’s easy to forget that CD Projekt Red has a fully-fledged sequel in development. As it stands, The Witcher 4 is currently targeting a 2028 release date, so it’s still quite a wait before players can get their hands on the game. The sequel will finally see Ciri take the mantle as the main protagonist from Geralt.
