Stardew Valley 1.7 has been one of those updates where the lack of information has become part of the excitement, with developer ConcernedApe now revealing even more cryptic details about the update. Previously, ConcernedApe had confirmed that Stardew Valley‘s 1.7 update was in development, but complete details were and are still limited.
There is also a long history of ConcernedApe quietly teasing Stardew Valley‘s future before revealing what those teases actually mean. That makes even a few strange words worth paying attention to, especially when they appear to describe specific changes coming to the game. Stardew Valley players now have exactly that, with ConcernedApe offering three particularly cryptic clues about what is planned for Version 1.7.
ConcernedApe Reveals 3 New Details About Stardew Valley 1.7
The three clues are simple, but they could point toward some major changes in Stardew Valley 1.7:
- Two paths will be extended
- Three will become four
- The Mermaid’s fruit will go free
ConcernedApe’s wording has already sent the SDV community into full speculation mode, with players attempting to connect each line to existing systems, locations, characters, and previously announced 1.7 features. For example, some fans think that the first hint refers to Clint and Sandy as new marriage candidates in Stardew Valley 1.7, but others think the tease would be for something new, like the Community Center and Joja routes receiving new content. Neither interpretation has been confirmed, leaving the wording deliberately open.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
“Three will become four” is even harder to pin down. Some folks think it might be a location-related clue for Stardew Valley, while others think that it might refer to the children in the game. At the same time, a particularly interesting theory is that the line refers to backpack slots and sizes, as there is often a high demand for expanded backpacks in Stardew Valley. The better backpack mod is popular for a reason, after all.
The last clue is the strangest of them all: “the mermaid’s fruit will go free.” Stardew Valley already has a mermaid, a Mermaid Show, and the Mermaid’s Pendant, which plays an important role in marriage. That has led some players to connect the “fruit” to the player’s children, particularly because ConcernedApe has previously indicated that children are receiving an overhaul in Stardew Valley 1.7. Others have suggested the clue could involve pearls, fish, crops, or something entirely new that players have no existing frame of reference for.
Stardew Valley 1.7 clearly has more planned than another collection of minor additions, but “two paths will be extended,” “three will become four,” and “the mermaid’s fruit will go free” leave almost everything about those additions to interpretation. The fun part is that ConcernedApe has given Stardew Valley players just enough information to start connecting the dots without actually explaining what any of those dots mean, but hopefully, a more substantial update is on the horizon, even as ConcernedApe also continues work on his next game Haunted Chocolatier.
