Santa Monica Studio Creative Director Cory Barlog has finally spoken up about the major God of War leaks that have been circulating for the past few weeks, and he isn’t exactly thrilled. Many have been wondering what the next God of War game could be, and these leaks point to a possible new chapter that has surprised a lot of fans.
Back in March, well-known leaker NateTheHate made waves on Twitter when they made some bold claims that the next God of War game will star Faye, Kratos’ wife. NateTheHate added that this alleged Faye God of War game will be even more focused on action compared to the past two entries, and it could even be released in the first half of 2027 if there aren’t any delays. It’s important to remember that all leaks and rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, but they have definitely sparked a lot of discussion among fans. Now, Cory Barlog has shared some of his thoughts about the leaks.
Every God Of War Game, Ranked
Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has produced many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos’ bloody PlayStation adventures are better than others.
Cory Barlog Doesn’t Sound Happy About the Recent God of War Leaks
Barlog’s comments appeared during an exchange on BlueSky in response to a question about the benefit behind Nintendo shadow-dropping its Star Fox Direct. One BlueSky user cheekily replied that shadow-dropping the showcase would solely be “to own NateTheHate for a week.” Cory Barlog simply replied to the user that he would “totally support that.” The new God of War game rumors go beyond NateTheHate, but the leaker’s aforementioned tweet has put a big spotlight on the speculation surrounding the franchise’s next chapter.

Although Barlog’s response is small, it’s pretty clear where he stands on how he feels about NateTheHate’s leaks. These rumors have made many eager for the next Sony State of Play event, and NateTheHate has even said recently that such a showcase could take place sometime before June. If that happens to be true, then a lot of gamers are going to be tuning in to see if a surprise God of War announcement is part of the broadcast.
Further rumors that have made their rounds on the internet also claim that Tyr will be a second protagonist and that multiple mythologies, like Japanese and Mayan, will play a big part.
It wouldn’t be the first surprise from God of War this year, either. A few months ago, the God of War Sons of Sparta prequel shadow-dropped, and the God of War trilogy remake was finally confirmed after a long period of speculation and rumors. A third surprise announcement all about a brand-new God of War game would make this a pretty big year for the franchise.

Right now, there is no way to really know what the next God of War game has in store for fans. The rumors about a Faye-led game are definitely compelling, but it’s also good to keep one’s expectations in check until Santa Monica Studio actually makes something official. NateTheHate is known to have a pretty solid track record, but that doesn’t automatically make every leak true. Ultimately, only time will tell. The wait for the next God of War game continues, and it will be thrilling to see what the new chapter will be about.
