Crimson Desert players can now change how the world around them appears, as a new mod can change the game’s environment to match the four real-world seasons, including spring and autumn. The new Crimson Desert mod arrived a few weeks before the launch of the highly-anticipated Charting the Unknown expansion.
Since Crimson Desert‘s launch in March 2026, the game has continued to receive support from developer Pearl Abyss via free content updates. Some of these updates contained changes that came in response to player feedback, including changes to trading posts and the game’s economy. Additional updates for Crimson Desert were also released to address lingering issues. For example, a September 2026 Crimson Desert hotfix update resolved an issue that prevented the quest “The Cursed Knight” from being completed even when prior conditions were met.
Crimson Desert’s Seasons of Pywel Mod Gives the Game A Fresh Look
Though Crimson Desert has strong mod support from dedicated fans, one player chose to make a visible impact with their latest project. The Seasons of Pywel mod, created by Khione95, uses the in-game calendar to change the seasons to match the real-world counterparts during gameplay, with no reloading required. The trees and grass visibly change from green to orange and red during the fall, while winter brings deep snowfall across the continent. The temperatures also change with each season, with summer sharing the same appearance as the unmodified version of Crimson Desert. The seasons change every 30 days in-game, with summer being the start of the cycle. Users can adjust how many in-game days it can take before a season changes. Once summer ends, autumn begins, with winter and spring following in order. The Seasons of Pywel mod requires 1.2 GB of storage space and is available to download and install for free via NexusMods.

The Seasons of Pywel mod arrived just four weeks before Crimson Desert‘s first paid expansion, Charting the Unknown, is set to go live. Although Pearl Abyss initially planned for Charting the Unknown to arrive on October 15, the developer chose to delay the Crimson Desert expansion by two weeks to deliver a more polished and stable experience for players to enjoy. Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown will launch on Thursday, October 29, on all supported platforms. The expansion is currently priced at $24.99, with exclusive diving sets available as a pre-order bonus.
Alongside the pending expansion launch, Pearl Abyss stated that it was not done with Crimson Desert just yet. In the studio’s Q2 2026 earnings letter, the development team stated that it would prepare ways to introduce and expand the open-world RPG to as many audiences as possible. Pearl Abyss also stated that Crimson Desert‘s planned Switch 2 port was in a playable state, though more information still needed to be sorted out before the studio could definitively pin down a release date.
Although less than 10% of Crimson Desert‘s player base on Steam have actually beaten the game’s main story, that has not stopped players from hopping back in to explore all that Pywel has to offer. With Charting the Unknown set to launch at the end of October, time will tell how many players will return to finish Crimson Desert‘s story beforehand.
