- Animals are rare in the dystopian future of Cyberpunk 2077 due to extinction and high taxes on ownership. Still, players can find and hatch a hidden iguana egg in the game, giving V an animal friend in their apartment.
- The presence of the pet iguana holds sentimental value, as it is associated with the character Jackie and their adventures.
- Having a similar mechanic in the next Cyberpunk game would be welcome, especially if it also has narrative significance. Instead of another lizard, a different animal can end up as the player’s pet.
Animals are a rare sight in the dystopian future of Cyberpunk 2077. Many common species are extinct in 2077, and even cats and dogs are rare in Night City due to high taxes discouraging their ownership. However, exotic pets remain popular among the rich and powerful and are highly sought-after goods on Night City’s black market.
Cyberpunk 2077 players can get a pet Iguana by finding and hatching the egg hidden in Konpeki Plaza. While many players will miss the almost literal easter egg, the pet Iguana is a neat little feature that gives V an animal friend to interact with back at their apartment. Something like the pet Iguana should return in the next Cyberpunk game, even if it isn’t in the form of another reptile.
14 Mistakes In Cyberpunk 2077 That Will Cost You The Best Ending
From blasting everything in sight to failing to gear up, the player can make a lot of mistakes in Cyberpunk 2077 that can cost them the best ending!
Cyberpunk 2077’s Pet Iguana
The prologue for Cyberpunk 2077‘s Nomad Lifepath sees V and Jackie smuggling an Iguana across the border from SoCal into Night City. While Jackie will comment about wanting to keep the Iguana as a pet, players must turn elsewhere to find their scaly friend.
That opportunity comes at the end of Act One during Cyberpunk 2077‘s Main Story Job The Heist. After infiltrating Kompeki Plaza and gaining access to Yorinobu’s Penthouse, players who turn left after getting off the elevator will find Yorinobu’s Iguana sitting on a log atop a raised platform. Players can interact with the Iguana, triggering a short conversation between V and Jacky. The only Iguana Egg in Cyberpunk 2077 is hidden in the shadowy area at the opposite end of the log.
If playing as a Nomad, V will ask Jackie if it’s the same Iguana they smuggled into the city. It’s not, but since this species is supposed to be extinct in 2077, and both are connected to Arasaka Corporation, Arasaka is likely either breeding or cloning the reptiles.
After escaping Kompeki Plaza, Cyberpunk 2077 players need to complete the Main Job Playing for Time. After talking to Takemura in Tom’s Diner, players can return to V’s apartment in Megabuilding H10 and find a small ceramic bowl sitting on the table just past the hidden door to V’s stash. Players can place the egg in the bowl, where it will hatch after 90-110 in-game days, to V and Johnny’s amusement. After that, Cyberpunk 2077 players can pet the Iguana at any time, and Johnny will appear and start playing his guitar when they do so.
Having a Pet in the Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
While it isn’t the hardest thing to find, the game never really points players to it. Players can only get the egg during one of the most significant moments in Cyberpunk 2077‘s story, so they may not even notice the Iguana. Meanwhile, the lighting in the room draws the player’s attention to the Iguana itself, leaving the egg obscured in darkness. The same arguably goes for the bowl in V’s apartment, which is almost hidden in plain sight.
Hatching the Iguana is an extra reward for observant players, and the fact that it’s a literal easter egg is more than a little amusing. This aspect is the main thing CD Projekt Red needs to recapture if it decides to let players get a pet in the next Cyberpunk game.
It doesn’t necessarily have to mean literally hatching an egg, and it probably shouldn’t be an Iguana again. However, several animals would be a great fit. A dog or cat might be too obvious, though they are about as rare as Iguanas in Night City. Perhaps it could be a tortoise in honor of Andrew from Cyberpunk 2077‘s Happy Together side job.
Of course, one other aspect of Cyberpunk 2077‘s Iguana is its association with V’s partner Jackie. He comments on the Iguana, and the player gets the egg in the same mission where Jackie dies. It is especially poignant for players who chose the Nomad Lifepath since their adventure with the Iguana is what brought Jackie and V together. If the new game is going to try something similar, its choice of animal should also be based on potential symbolic significance.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an RPG set in a future dystopian world. Players take up the role of V, who works as a mercenary in Night City in California. Gameplay involves branching dialogue, open-world exploration, character classes, and combat.
