The upcoming Wuxia action RPG Phantom Blade Zero, which takes heavy inspiration from games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and the Devil May Cry series, is already one of Steam’s top upcoming games just days before its global release. Phantom Blade Zero arrives digitally on Wednesday, October 28, on Steam, Epic Games Store, and PS5.
Developed and published by Beijing studio S-GAME, Phantom Blade Zero blends Wuxia storytelling with high-octane martial arts action set in a world on the brink of destruction. Players will assume the role of Soul, a wandering warrior who has only 66 days to uncover a conspiracy before his life expires. Like the critically acclaimed Devil May Cry franchise that dominated the PS2 era, Phantom Blade Zero explores a realm infested with deadly demons. Soul can use over 30 weapons and 20 unique Phantom Edges in his journey across the Phantom World.
Phantom Blade Zero is Already Popular With Steam Users
With Phantom Blade Zero already proving to be an action-packed thrill ride, the game’s success can already be measured on Steam. According to Steam’s Popular Upcoming Games list on the store’s front page, Phantom Blade Zero has already cracked the top 10 list of titles that Valve’s player base is eagerly anticipating. S-GAME’s Wuxia title joins games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest. The honor came nearly a month after S-GAME stated that over three million players across all available storefronts added the game to their wish lists. However, it is currently unclear what the game’s exact pre-release sales figures are.
Steam Top 10 Popular Upcoming Games (October 18, 2026)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
- Escape from Playtime
- Phantom Blade Zero
- Probably Stolen – Cyberpunk Shopkeeper Sim
- We Were Here Tomorrow
- The Dead We Knew: Open World Survival
- Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest
- Atmosfar
- Stupid Never Dies
- Moon Sweepers
Despite the visual similarities to Sekiro and other Souls-like action games, S-GAME previously stated that this will not be the case with Phantom Blade Zero, as it will have multiple difficulty options for players to pick from. Additionally, Phantom Blade Zero will allow players to reforge the game’s weapons without having to waste too many materials. However, this system comes with the cost of players needing to have plenty of materials to ensure more than one weapon at a time can benefit from any upgrades.
Phantom Blade Zero is developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will utilize ray tracing to enhance shadow and reflection effects throughout the game’s environments. The developers stated that the upcoming action title will also support Nvidia DLSS upscaling as a way for players on older hardware to reach 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1440p. This includes older graphics cards, such as the popular Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. However, gamers will need a newer GPU, such as the RTX 5080, to utilize path tracing at a 4K resolution with DLSS upscaling enabled. Phantom Blade Zero will also include Denuvo anti-tamper at launch, which can impact performance.
Given that the fall of 2026 is loaded with highly anticipated games like Grand Theft Auto 6, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the fact that Phantom Blade Zero is in the same conversation is a potentially good sign for S-GAME and action RPG fans. Time will tell how successful Phantom Blade Zero will be once it hits store shelves on October 28.
