Zombie survival title DayZ is receiving a completely new area in the teased Frostline expansion set to release Fall 2024. The Frostline trailer doesn’t include specifics aside from being able to wishlist the DLC via the DayZ Steam page.
Frostline is the second DLC for the game, and the first new map since Livonia released in 2019. The expansion announcement follows on the heels of news that the title will merge DayZ‘s Livonia into the base game, resulting in a price increase.
Popular DayZ Server Has Banned xQc
Renowned streamer Félix Lengyel, better known as xQc, gets banned from a popular server of the horror-themed zombie survival game DayZ.
Frostline is set in the new land of Sakhal, a snow and ice-covered archipelago. Players will need to bundle up to keep warm, hunt for food, and avoid new predators. Along with the frigid conditions, areas close to the terrain’s volcano add unique challenges to survival. The different challenges could mark the area as one of the hardest survival locations in DayZ. Fishing will get an update and new diseases are ready to infect characters, among other new mechanics introduced with the cold.

New challenges aren’t the only things Frostline is set to bring. Fans of exploring hidden areas and learning the lore of the land can expect plenty of secrets. A number of large, seemingly abandoned, machines dot the environment, and mysteries are sure to be locked away under sheets of ice. With 83 square kilometers of explorable area, there’s plenty players can look forward to discovering. Additional content includes winter cosmetics, perfect for surviving in snow and rain conditions in DayZ.
A specific release date wasn’t included in the announcement, only the time frame of Fall 2024. With most areas in the Northern Hemisphere preparing for colder conditions as winter approaches, this could work in the game’s favor immersion-wise, further cementing DayZ‘s status as a realistic survival game. It’s also right before the holiday season kicks off, allowing those with limited budgets to save for the DLC. More details, including price, are sure to be released as summer comes to a close.
While there have been a number of smaller content releases, including new weapons, to the title, Frostline is only the second large expansion for DayZ. It still has a consistent player base, allowing DayZ to remain one of the best co-op zombie games on the market. With the inclusion of a new area bringing new eyes to the title, as well as delighting long-time fans, DayZ’s hold on the genre could tighten further.
