Dead by Daylight has released its newest crossover character, adding the Alan Wake franchise’s titular protagonist to the game. The asymmetrical horror game from developer Behaviour Interactive has regularly featured crossovers with many of the most popular horror series across both film and video games. Beloved series like Resident Evil, Evil Dead, and Stranger Things among many others have been brought into the game, allowing players to control their favorite Killers and Survivors from a plethora of horror properties. Now, Alan Wake is the next series to come to Dead by Daylight.
The iconic horror franchise starring titular protagonist Alan Wake has made waves over the past year, following the highly-anticipated launch of Alan Wake 2. The game saw immediate success, with fans praising its gripping narrative and stunning survival horror gameplay. Alan Wake 2 was a mainstay at end-of-year awards shows as well, winning three awards including “Best Narrative” at the 2023 Game Awards and receiving a nomination for Game of the Year. Now, Alan Wake is crossing horror games and making his way to Dead by Daylight.
Alan Wake 2, Dead by Daylight Devs Explain Why Alan is a Perfect Fit for a New Survivor
Alan Wake joins Dead by Daylight’s roster of survivors on January 30, and developers of both games think the crossover is a natural fit.
Following the collaboration’s announcement earlier this month, Behaviour Interactive has officially added Alan Wake as Dead by Daylight‘s newest DLC Survivor. Explained in-universe as Alan Wake being sucked into a story he wrote, his “Champion of Light” perk grants him additional speed while shining a flashlight and slows Killers when blinding them. The “Boon: Illumination” perk allows Alan to create totems revealing generators and chests to allies, while his “Deadline” perk improves skill checks for healing other Survivors or repairing generators.
Dead by Daylight Adds Alan Wake
- New Survivor: Alan Wake
- New Outfits: Alan Wake Classic (Very Rare), Bright Falls (Very Rare), Saga Anderson (Legendary), Rose Marigold (Legendary)
Alan Wake’s addition to Dead by Daylight comes with a plethora of new cosmetics being added to the game as well. Players will be able to pick up multiple alternate outfits for Alan, including the “Classic” outfit inspired by his appearance in the first Alan Wake and a “Bright Falls” outfit with a more casual look. Legendary Outfits will also be available based on Saga Anderson and Rose Marigold, bringing even more characters from the franchise to Dead by Daylight.
Dead by Daylight‘s newest crossover comes as Behaviour Interactive is set to add a new limited-time modifier alongside the collaboration. The “Lights Out” modifier provides an added challenge for Survivor players, making the in-game visuals significantly darker. Behaviour Interactive had previously gauged fan interest in different game modes, with the “Disgustingly Scary” mode as one proposal including darker and thicker fog. Alan Wake joining Dead by Daylight is a testament to the massive success of one of 2023’s hottest games.
