Capcom has confirmed that it will give players the ability to make the appearance of Dead Rising protagonist Frank West resemble that of his 2006 counterpart in the upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. However, there’s a catch, as not all gamers will have access to this feature from the outset. Despite the drawbacks, plenty of hardcore fans will likely be happy to see the developers behind the latest, revamped iteration of Dead Rising pay homage to the character designs of the original Xbox 360 game.

Late last month, Capcom surprised fans by announcing that a remaster of the first Dead Rising game was in the works. Dubbed the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, this version of the iconic zombie-killing game gives the 2006 original a fresh coat of paint by completely overhauling its graphics and adding several quality-of-life enhancements. The reception to the gameplay trailers for DRDR has largely been positive, with many gamers expressing their excitement at seeing the classic Xbox 360 game brought up to modern standards. However, several Dead Rising fans have expressed their disappointment over the changes made to Frank West’s character design in the remaster, as some have found Capcom’s decision to give the photojournalist-turned-zombie-slayer an older appearance unappealing.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Could Retcon One Dead Rising 3 Story Issue

Dead Rising’s Deluxe Remaster will update Dead Rising’s graphics for modern consoles, but it could also retcon one story issue from Dead Rising 3.

Fortunately, gamers who aren’t a fan of Frank West’s new look will have the option to play as the original version of the character, but only if they pre-order Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Capcom recently revealed this information alongside a slew of other in-game cosmetics and downloadable content, a handful of which are exclusively available to players that purchase the upcoming title ahead of its September 2024 release. Alongside the Frank West 2006 Costume, gamers who pre-order the remaster of the acclaimed Dead Rising game will also receive an in-game cosmetic modeled after DR2 protagonist Chuck Greene and a costume that lets players dress up as the Willamette Park View Mall Bee mascot.

The Frank West 2006 Costume is Locked Behind a Pre-Order Requirement

Additionally, this pre-order bonus pack contains exclusive background music intended to go alongside the aforementioned costumes. The Frank West 2006 costume comes with the “Dreams of Yore (Mall Music 2 arranged)” BGM, while the Chuck Greene and Willamette Park View Mall Bee costumes include the “Super Shopper (Dead Rising 2)” and “Happy Flight! (Mall Music 6 arranged)” BGMs, respectively. All the music contained in this downloadable content pack can be played in the shopping mall in DRDR, the location that serves as the open world setting for the zombie survival game.

Although players who pre-order Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be able to change Frank West’s appearance to match his 2006 look, they sadly won’t have the option to play the game using his original voice lines, as Capcom recast the protagonist of Dead Rising in the upcoming remaster. Fans will be ultimately be able to make their judgment on Frank West’s new voice actor when Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 18.
