A new official post by Bungie details the timeline for upcoming releases in Destiny 2, including unvaulting plans and an update with all-new content coming in 2027. Bungie’s iconic looter-shooter was supposed to get a new expansion this year, called Shattered Cycle, but instead, the studio announced that it would cease all support for the game after a final update in June. The Monument of Triumph update was one of the biggest and most beloved in Destiny 2‘s history, and players showed up and showed support for both Bungie and the game.

After months of players being vocal about why the game should live on, including a Sony State of Play showcase where the chat was taken over by requests for a Destiny 3, Bungie finally announced in September that it would resume work on the franchise. The first step is going to be unvaulting all content in Destiny 2, including campaigns, DLC stories, Raids, locations, and more. Specifics were unclear up until recently, but a new, heartfelt post by Bungie’s Josh Dean finally reveals more of what (and when) is coming.

Destiny 2’s Timeline for Unvaulting Content and Future New Updates Officially Revealed

In the new Bungie Community Update post for October, the studio gives a clearer timeline for when to expect updates. The unvaulting process is currently in pre-production and will enter production in February 2027, with an unknown release date that could take about 12 months, thus sliding into 2028. However, Bungie has also announced a “Destiny 2 Celebration” event and a “Destiny Legacy” update, with the former being a way to celebrate the game beyond Destiny 2‘s Monument of Triumph update. This is currently unclear, but it seems to point to some form of new content, be it an in-game event, new gear to farm, or something of the sort. A new progress bar will also be released in February, possibly featuring a clear release target and updated goals.

The “Destiny Legacy” part of the post states that the franchise’s “epic journey started over a decade ago, and the whole experience needs to be served to you all where you play today,” which could refer to an official Destiny 1 remaster and PC port. This is something Deane himself teased on Twitter, and it would fit the current vision Bungie has for bringing the franchise back perfectly. In fact, Deane and Studio Head Poria Torkan stated that they want to retell the whole story of the franchise before working on sequels or spin-offs.

Alongside past campaigns, Raids, Strikes, and locations, Destiny 2 is officially bringing back the Menagerie with new rewards, as announced in the same post. This was the most popular activity in the game, and to see it return with newly reprised and updated gear would be great for many fans.

Not only is Bungie hiring again for Destiny 2, but there are also rumors that Bungie will make Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Disney, or is at least in talks about it. Whether this is confirmed remains to be seen, but the studio does seem to be turning the ship around.
