Blizzard finally confirmed that Diablo 2: Resurrected is finally coming to Steam, mirroring other franchises that have since made the jump. It’s been a good couple of weeks for Blizzard, as the company has made a ton of big announcements for many of its tentpole franchises, with Overwatch getting a big overhaul, World of Warcraft preparing for its big Midnight expansion launch, and both Diablo 2 and Diablo 4 getting huge new announcements and content reveals. Now, the updated version of Diablo 2 will finally be available to a wider playerbase.
Back in January, Blizzard announced special spotlight showcases for its major franchises. World of Warcraft led the way on January 29 with more Midnight news and a roadmap, while Overwatch went on to announce a major overhaul of its game, dropping the 2 from its name, adding 5 heroes, and placing a greater emphasis on narrative elements with a year-long story arc. Hearthstone followed by confirming a new Cataclysm expansion, though for many fans, the Diablo franchise seemingly had the most to share, including a surprising “resurrection” for Diablo 2 players.
Diablo 4 Season 12’s New Uniques Are The First of Their Kind Since October 7, 2024
Diablo 4 Season 12 is adding several new Uniques that break a trend started all the way back in October 2024 with the release of Vessel of Hatred.
Diablo 2: Resurrected Finally Comes to Steam
As part of the Diablo 30th Anniversary Showcase, Blizzard revealed the second promised class coming alongside the Paladin class for the Lord of Hatred expansion. The Warlock class utilizes ancient Vizjerei texts to summon demons like the Goatman, Tainted, or Defiler to assist in combat, devour demons to gain buffs, or bind demons to gain access to their unique skills. The new Warlock class is set to launch with the Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4 in April, but that wasn’t the only surprise Blizzard had up its sleeves.
As part of the Warlock reveal for Diablo 4, Blizzard also went on to confirm that the new class would be coming to Diablo Immortal as well as Diablo 2: Resurrected as well. What’s surprising is that Diablo 2 hasn’t received new content since the Lord of Destruction expansion 25 years ago, back in 2021. The Resurrected Edition was simply a remaster of the original game and didn’t add any new content outside updated graphics, cross-progression, and other modern features. As part of the shadow-dropped Warlock update for Diablo 2, the Windows version of the game is now available on Steam, following suit with other Blizzard franchises like Overwatch and giving PC players more options outside the usual Battle.net platform.

The Reign of the Warlock DLC for Diablo 2 also adds Enhanced Terror Zones, which are intended to challenge players with more difficult encounters in the endgame. In addition, quality of life updates have also been applied within this update, including over 30 new items like Tomes, reworked Sunder Charms, Stash Tabs for better organization, 2 more character slots to work with, a chronicle that sorts and keeps track of any dropped item, and a customizable loot filter that lets players show or hide items that drop on the ground.
Despite the Warlock now available in Diablo 2 and fans still waiting for the Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4, there’s likely never been a better time to jump back into the franchise. In fact, Diablo 4‘s Lunar New Year event is making it easier than ever to level characters. From February 12 to February 26, all shrines currently in the game are replaced by Year of the Horse-themed Lunar Shrines which grant players a 100% multiplicative bonus to experience gains for two minutes, as well as one of 7 bonus effects. These include things like adding shocking strikes to attacks, resetting all cooldowns and increasing attack speed, summoning treasure goblins, executing monsters, and more.
