After weeks of player frustration and feedback, the highly requested change to the Mythic Unique system inside of Diablo 4‘s Season of Death Awakening has been buffed. After the new season of Diablo 4 launched on June 30, fans have largely been frustrated at the extremely low drop rates for the new Mythic Unique items, which has since developed into a point of contention for players.
Following up on the well-received Season of Hatred alongside the expansion, Season 14 of Diablo 4 introduced Ruptures around Sanctuary, with players being able to earn access to a Deathtoll Chamber mini-dungeon and earn Superior Lair Keys to score loot from the Lair Boss. For many, the biggest prize would be fighting a new enemy boss called the Corrupted Reaper inside the Pandemonium Threshold, which teased the ability to drop Mythic Uniques and Pandemonium Fragments for upgrading. Unfortunately, it seems the drop rates were much lower than anticipated, leading the community to express their frustrations about the mechanic not working as intended.
Diablo 4 Hotfix Boosts Mythic Drop Rates
Although Blizzard released numerous updates for Diablo 4 in the weeks since, none of them seemed to address the root issue, leaving fans more frustrated with the state of the game. In a new post to the community, Dan Tanguay, the design director of Diablo 4‘s live service, acknowledged the feedback the community has given regarding the Mythic Uniques, drop rates, and equip limits. Tanguay admitted that seasons typically experiment with new ideas and push the game in new directions, but not everything lands as expected.

While specific numbers weren’t given, Tanguay’s message confirmed that the drop rate for Mythics dropped from the Corrupted Reaper boss fight is being buffed, while the equip limit for Mythic Uniques is being removed. Not only that, next week’s update will add Superior Lair Keys to the Glints of Hope repeatable cache, while Mythic Tribute drop rates are also getting an increase inside Diablo 4‘s Undercity activity.
Tanguay’s message did offer hope that Blizzard will continue to listen to feedback and apply these lessons to future updates. Following the hot fix, players will likely be putting Diablo 4‘s Corrupted Reaper encounter to the test to see the new drop rates in action. While Mythic Uniques typically have low drop rates anyway, considering they’re some of the most powerful items in the game, fans just weren’t seeing anything drop from the new boss encounter, so even a slight boost should be better than how it was previously.

Season 14 has certainly had its fair share of frustrating moments for fans, so hopefully this hotfix puts an end to the issues for good. Earlier in July, Blizzard found itself in hot water with fans after significantly nerfing Mythic Unique drop rates in Diablo 4, likely the start of the following controversies. Part of the problem is that the nerf wasn’t reported in the July 4 patch notes, leaving some members of the community to discover these changes through gameplay. Naturally, the discovery left a bad taste in the mouths of fans, which seemed to lead into the current issues.
