Nintendo and Illumination held another Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct ahead of Mario Day tomorrow, and not only did we get a new trailer, but also a surprise appearance from cast members all hyping the movie up because that’s what you do when you’re promoting a film, I guess. And now, we also know a few more folks who are joining the crew in the sequel.
Luiz Guzman is playing Wart, Issa Rae is voicing the Honey Queen and…Donald Glover, Childish Gambino himself, is playing Yoshi.
The Community actor and rapper did not make an appearance in the Direct like Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, and others did, but Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri made sure everyone knows he is a big fan of Nintendo’s games. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to theaters on April 1 and this was the final trailer, but we’ll probably hear more casting news in the coming weeks as we still don’t know the voices behind Birdo and a few other characters.
Now that we know who’s voicing Yoshi, I assume we’re about to get an absolute tidal wave of memes and edits of Yoshi with Glover’s out-of-pocket rap lyrics. Be ready for the internet to have a field day with this one. I’ll give you a head start: Someone make an animation of Yoshi rapping “Bonfire.”
