Dragon’s Dogma 2: How To Respawn Boss Enemies

Knowing when and how bosses respawn is key knowledge to have in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s late game. Especially when farming enhancement materials.

However, due to Queen Disa, there’s a fake arisen who took the player’s place, and the Monster Culling quest will be one way to get closer to exposing the truth.

How To Get The Monster Culling Quest

You will be able to get the Monster Culling quest not long after first reaching Vernworth. After entering the city following a long journey on an Ox Cart with Gregor and his men, you will be taken into questioning by Captain Brant for claiming to be the arisen, despite there already being an arisen.

Inside the private quarters, where you will be questioned, Captain Brant will reveal that his allegiance is actually to you, the player, the real arisen. As such, he will ask you to meet him at the Inn at night to discuss a plan to secure your rightful spot, despite the schemes of Queen Disa.

At nighttime, the player will have to go meet Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn. He will explain to you that you have to do a few heroic acts to be able to attend the coronation, where you will reveal to everyone that you are the true arisen. Otherwise, the queen will not let this happen. For that, you will be given 3 quests to complete:

  • Monster Culling
  • Disa’s Plot
  • The Caged Magistrate

You can take these on in any order, and they will have to be completed to progress in the main story. Monster Culling will, however, be no easy task.

What The Quest “Monster Culling” Entails

The game describes the quest as follows:

“You have been given three tasks: to cull the goblins at Trevo Mine, northwest of Vernworth; to aid the soldiers dispatched to cull saurians in Harve Village, west of Vernworth; and to locate the soldiers tasked with delivering freight on Vermund’s eastern edge.”

What Captain Brant asks of the player is to basically head into each of these given locations, that will be marked on the map, and kill every single monster, culling them from these locations. The locations are spread far apart and will take some time to complete. The player can start with whatever location they prefer, in whichever order, as that doesn’t matter.

What To Keep In Mind Before Starting the Quest

Before starting this quest, the player should make sure to have a camping kit at hand. This could be essential as this adventure will take some time. The player should also get the “Vocation Frustration” quest as it can be completed alongside this one.

The 3 Monster Culling Locations

Location 1 – Trevo Mines

The Trevo mine is an interesting location – you should tackle this mission either first, or after finishing with Vermund’s Eastern Edge location.

To reach this location, you should exit Vernworth from the western gate, where you will start heading to the location on the map. You will, of course, have to enter a mine to complete this mission. You will make your way inside the mine and kill every single goblin inside.

There are many goblins you will encounter while making your way through the mines, so it’s important to make sure they’re all dead before exiting. You can know you’ve killed them all when the game notifies you of that.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Where To Find A Beastren Mask

A Beastren Mask is needed for humans trying to enter the region of Battahl through the main gate in Dragon’s Dogma 2; here’s where to find one.

It’s important to note that this location is essential for another quest, the one you probably took from Klaus, “Vocation Frustration.” With this quest on, you will be able to find a Greatsword, the Two Hander, and an Archistaff, the Grevious Horns. Taking these 2 weapons back, you will be able to dip into two new vocations, the Warrior and the Sorcerer.

Location 2 – Harve Village

The Harve village will be closest to the location of the Travo mines. So after you finish culling the mines, you should head to the Harve village, which is south of those mines. The way to this location might be arduous, especially if it’s nighttime by then, and if your HP is exhausted by this time.

You will likely encounter dangerous enemies along the way, many of which are better avoided in a fight as all it will do is drain your HP before you even make it to the mission location.

When you finally get into the Harve village, you should make sure to interact with the Riftstone to fix it back up. The village here looks rather abandoned and destroyed, but you might be able to find some loot around this area.

You should then continue following the quest marker until you reach a soldier and a cave entrance that goes down. This grants the player entrance to the Stormwind Cave. The player should kill all the monsters inside and help the soldiers. The player should try not to miss a chest that has the Serpentine Circlet.

Location 3 – Vermund’s Eastern Edge

To reach this location, you should first return to Vernworth if you left it for one of the other locations first. Then, from there, you should exit the city from the northern gate.

This location should either be tackled first or last, as it is farthest from the other two.

Of course, as is the case for the other locations, you should travel during the day, as it is pretty far from the city and it’s easier to see around during the day. This is especially true for this one. You can get one of your pawns to take the lead, so you don’t get lost.

Once the location is reached, you will have to fight a horde of Goblins and Saurians that have targeted a shipment. You will have to defend the shipment swiftly.

Going Back To Captain Brant – What Rewards Will The Player Get?

Now that you have gone to all three locations and completed all the missions, you can go back to Vernworth and speak with Captain Brant again. He will be found in the same place you left him, the Stardrop Inn at night.

As a reward for completing this arduous mission, you will be awarded 3000 experience points, as well as 7000 gold, and one Expeditioner’s Cloak.

When speaking to Brant after completing this quest, you can actually unlock more quests. If you say Accept to “Tell me ability the Masquerade”, then you will unlock the Stolen Throne quest in addition to the Eventide Mask. If you say Accept to “Tell me of the false Sovran”, you will unlock the “Nameless Village” quest.

The player can now also focus on the other quests, namely Disa’s Plot and The Caged Magistrate.
