  • What To Do If Bosses Don’t Respawn

A major part of combat in Dragon’s Dogma 2 revolves around fighting large mini-bosses dotted around the map of Vermund and Battahl and farming them for materials. From Ogres to Griffins to Chimeras to Drakes, these bosses not only serve as a treasure trove of experience, gold, and Dcp, but they’re also a key source of weapon enhancement materials.

When Do Boss Monsters Respawn

waiting at a campfire in dd2

Boss monsters respawn every seven in-game days. Resting at an inn, house, or campfire is the fastest way to pass the time. However, waiting near a boss’s spawn point will prevent them from spawning. If you kill Medusa, for example, and use the campfire directly west of the Nera’Battahl Windrift (the cave where you fight Medusa) to wait seven days, she won’t respawn. Only time spent outside of a monster’s immediate area of influence count toward the respawn timer.

The
Sphinx
is a unique monster and does not respawn. The only way to get the Sphinx Smiter Pawn Badge is to ask other players for help through
Pawn quests
or progress to New Game+.

To be completely sure, it’s recommended you leave the area entirely. This means that if you defeated the elite Golem in Volcanic Island near Mountain Base Cave and want it to respawn, your best bet is to spend seven days in Bakbattahl or Vernworth.

Small enemies like Goblins, Saurians, Harpies, and Bandits respawn every 2-3 in-game days. Unlike larger monsters, you don’t need to leave the area to get these enemies to respawn. They’ll appear in their designated spots even if you set up camp right on top of it.

What To Do If Bosses Don’t Respawn

There are a couple of scenarios that can result in large monsters not respawning even if you follow all the steps correctly and wait the full seven days.

One-Time Spawns

There are some spots in Dragon’s Dogma 2 where a boss monster only spawns once. Just outside of Harve Village, for example, you’ll find a Cyclops to the north that only appears once. After he’s defeated, he disappears forever.

Flying Enemies

Griffins (and sometimes Drakes) have an aerial patrol route where they fly over a vaste expanse. Since they’re always mobile and tend to fly away if the battle doesn’t go in their favor, the only sure way of finding and defeating these enemies is finding their nest.
