In Dragon’s Dogma 2, vocations are basically classes. The game allows you to pick a vocation, for you, and for your pawns, and depending on what vocations you choose everything can change.
The vocation you choose will impact many things, such as what weapons and skills you can use. Not only that, but it will also impact how your stats and the stats of your pawns increase during each level-up. In other words, vocations are one of the foundations of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 gameplay.
The Mage Vocation
Wielding a staff, the Mage offers support to their party in various ways: from launching magick attacks, offering enchantments that bolster their party members’ weapons, to casting healing spells. The more advanced and powerful the magick is, the longer the incantation time will be. As a Mage, you will experience the strategic excitement of deftly executing your magick abilities.
The mage vocation is classified as a basic vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This class basically just relies on magick, where they are pretty well balanced and can cast both offensive magick and buff themselves or allies. As their weapon of choice, the mages wield staff.
Mages are pretty much needed in any team, mainly thanks to their amazing ability Anodyne, which can heal. The ability to heal will of course always be useful, especially in the midst of battle. Besides healing, however, mages can do quite some damage with their spells from a distance, but they are quite weak when attacked head on.

How To Unlock the Mage Vocation

Their magick is conjured with both hands through a large staff, and can change the tide of battle at any given opportunity. As their magick spells take longer to cast, it is key for the Sorcerer to find a safe place and determine the correct moment to strike.
The Sorcerer vocation is classified in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as an advanced vocation. This class’s role is to unleash powerful spells on enemies, causing huge damage with the use of magick. Sorcerers will be able to access all tiers of spells, which can include a lot of boons in addition to the usual heavy-hitting spells. Sorcerers can also heal some status ailments, but not most. Their weapon of choice is the archistaves.

Pointed Fangs are an essential upgrade material in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but they can be hard to come by.
Sorcerers can eventually cast some of the most powerful spells in the game, which can include the following:

How To Unlock the Sorcerer Vocation
The Sorcerer vocation, unlike the Mage vocation, cannot be chosen from the get-go. Indeed, to get this vocation, the player must first make their way to Vernworth. There, they will have to find an individual named Klaus, who will be located at the Vernworth Vocational Guild.
Taking to him, the player should take on the Vocation Frustration Quest. After that, the player should take the Monster Culling quest from Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn.
With that, the player will eventually pass by the Trevo mines, and upon exploring and killing enemies there, the player will surely find the Archistaff and the greatsword.
With these in hand, the player can head to Vernworth, where they will finally be able to unlock not only the Sorcerer vocation, but also the Warrior vocation.
Mage Vs Sorcerer: Which Vocation is Better In Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The answer to which is better is dependent on what you, the player, want to do with your own character or your pawn. If the goal is to make a character that will focus on healing and supporting allies, Mage is the way to go. Its advantages are the ability to heal and the fact it’s available from the get-go. It is more balanced, and less risky.
If, on the other hand, you want your characters to be able to hit hard with magick, then the Sorcerer vocation will be your go-to, as even if they cast the same spell as a Mage, their impact will be far greater. Some of their spells might take longer, however, but that’s a given, due to their power. The spells they have can make the difference in a boss fight, but they can be riskier.
