RuneScape: Dragonwilds has only recently reached its 1.0 release, but Jagex is already looking well beyond that launch (while currently updating this version). The open-world survival-crafting game has spent much of its development expanding Ashenfall and building out its version of the RuneScape formula, with players now able to explore the completed Kuldra’s Saga across PC and consoles. With that chapter finished, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is preparing to move into a new part of its story while also establishing a regular stream of content for the years ahead.

The first step will arrive before 2027 properly begins. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will receive a free December update called Luminance, which Jagex describes as a prelude to the upcoming Blood Crystal Saga. The update will introduce Elves to Ashenfall, along with new elven customization options for characters and new building pieces inspired by the classic RuneScape city of Prifddinas. RuneScape: Dragonwilds‘ Luminance update will also introduce the Prayer skill, although Jagex has stressed that its implementation will be different from the versions found in RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds will then begin its Blood Crystal Saga in early 2027 with Song of Rebellion, introducing a new storyline centered around a group of Rebel Elves and the threat posed by the Nos Clan. Players will travel to the elven city of Ailddinas, explore new areas, and encounter familiar RuneScape creatures including Implings and new Kebbit variants, alongside enemies such as Moss Giants. Song of Rebellion will also introduce Hunter, giving RuneScape: Dragonwilds another major skill built around sneaking, trapping, and collecting creatures. A second chapter, Crown of Night, will follow later, sending players into the Nos Clan’s territory beneath a perpetual eclipse.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

The Blood Crystal Saga is only part of what Jagex has planned for RuneScape: Dragonwilds in 2027. The game will receive quarterly updates featuring new skills, including Hunter and Slayer, while monthly updates will provide smaller additions such as side quests, weapons, decorations, rewards, and quality-of-life improvements. The roadmap should give RuneScape: Dragonwilds a much more consistent cadence after 1.0, with the larger quarterly additions providing new gameplay systems while the monthly updates continue filling out Ashenfall.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is also getting something that could dramatically expand what players can do with the game: official mod support. Jagex has partnered with CurseForge to bring dedicated creation tools to Dragonwilds, along with an in-game mod browser and installer. The feature is planned for the first half of 2027 and will be available across all platforms, including consoles. That means modding will not be restricted to PC players, potentially giving the new RuneScape game a much broader community-driven ecosystem than many survival games.

For RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the end of Kuldra’s Saga looks less like a conclusion and more like the beginning of its next phase. With regular updates continuing alongside official modding, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a massive survival game masterpiece that Jagex intends to keep expanding for years, with the end of 2026 and 2027 just being the beginning.
