Gears of War: E-Day is finally available for players and following the early access period, The Coalition has readied a big Day 1 update that can be downloaded right now. With the latest entry in the series, The Coalition is taking fans back to the beginning of the conflict as Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel, showcasing the horrors of Emergence Day.
While the announcement of E-Day was likely a surprise for many fans, especially for those who were expecting The Coalition to continue from the cliffhanger ending from Gears 6, it seems like fans are more than happy to reunite with fan favorite protagonists Marcus and Dom. On October 1, Gears of War: E-Day went live for Premium and Collector’s Edition owners, giving them 5 days of early access. Despite not being available to the masses, Gears of War: E-Day managed to break a record on Steam, which bolds well once the public gets their hands on it.
Ahead of the October 6 launch day for Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition released the patch notes for the game’s big day 1 update. Ultimately, this is an update that fans will want to download before jumping in as it makes a number of important improvements and fixes, including enhancing the game’s stability and performance. While The Coalition doesn’t dive into too many details on what was improved from a technical standpoint, players should expect to see more stable online sessions and other improvements across the full game.
This is especially true for the game’s online game modes like Horde and Versus. During the Early Access portion, some users ran into an issue that kept them on the “Waiting for players” screen while trying to connect. In addition, some Horde Mode objectives would get stuck and could not be completed or the extraction helicopter when on a Downtown West Blitz mission would fail to show up entirely. The campaign portion of Gears of War: E-Day also received numerous fixes for various issues that could potentially pop up.

Alongside a new story, Gears of War: E-Day is also adding Mythic Achievements to the Xbox platform. Taking a page out of Sony’s Platinum Trophy playbook, Microsoft is finally adding this highly requested feature that allows players to essentially earn a special achievement for fully unlocking the entire set. While Insiders are getting this feature first, and has added this feature to many legacy games as far back as the Xbox 360. Gears of War: E-Day will be the first newly released game to take advantage of this, though it stands to reason that most, if not all, first party games will launch with a Mythic Achievement going forward.
Naturally, the launch period is only the start of what The Coalition has planned as it revealed a roadmap of seasonal content for Gears of War: E-Day. Season 1 runs for a full 8 weeks, adding 3 limited-time events based on real world holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving, alongside rotating weekly challenges, new game modes like Versus Ranked, and more. Longtime fans will also want to jump in during Season 2, which officially celebrates the franchise’s 20th Anniversary, which The Coalition promises to be a love letter to the series.
