Epic Games Store users have a limited time to snag a new free game that’s not part of the typical weekly giveaways, and it’s the 2023 open-world survival game Devil’s Island. Interestingly, Epic Games Store users have until May 16 at specifically 3:11 AM PT/6:11 AM ET to claim it, download it, and keep it forever. It’s uncertain why, given most game giveaways use hour marks for ease of communication, but yeah, why not, let’s throw an x:11 in the mix.

Meanwhile, it’s worth highlighting that Steam is also hosting a GreedFall 2 Free Weekend promotion where players can download and play Spiders’ last fantasy RPG until May 17 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET. Afterward, players will have to purchase it if they want to keep playing, but there’s an extended discount. That caveat does not apply to Devil’s Island, however.

Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion Has 6 Upcoming 100% Free Games

The backend of Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion reveals six games that will be made available for free in the coming weeks/months.

Claim Devil’s Island for Free

To be clear, GreedFall 2 is temporarily free if claimed and played before its May 17 date, but Devil’s Island is completely free to keep if claimed before May 16. Devil’s Island is an open-world survival game with horror elements, in which players, as a paid mercenary, investigate the source of the apocalypse. That involves traveling to a mysterious island believed to be home to the source, while dealing with zombies, other grotesque creatures, traps, and puzzles. All of this is dealt with in first-person, complete with a standard array of melee and firearms, while players also develop new skills as they progress.

Outside of this free game promotion on the Epic Games Store, Devil’s Island typically costs $11.99. As such, it’s a pretty cheap PC game in general, and that’s reflected in its overall direction. Its graphics are simplistic, and some key elements, like its UI, are far from optimized. However, it’s a budget game made free, and nothing beats free in this economy, my friends. For someone looking for a game to mess around in this weekend, Devil’s Island could do the job.

Of course, it’s worth noting that most of May’s biggest video game releases are slated for the second half of the month. Devil’s Island and other free games definitely have their place in a game rotation, but with games like Subnautica 2, Forza Horizon 6, Zero Parade: For Dead Spies, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Warhammer 40K Mechanicus 2, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Bubsy 4D, 007 First Light, and Mina the Hollower on the horizon, video games are definitely coming for your free time in the next few weeks.

Still, that’s the benefit of Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion and Epic Games Store’s free games (or additional giveaways). Games like Devil’s Island can be claimed, downloaded, and effectively kept forever. Even if you don’t have time to play Devil’s Island right now, there’s no harm in adding it to your digital library and returning later, as long as it’s claimed before the highly specific 3:11 AM PT/6:11 AM ET expiration time on May 16.
