While Elden Ring garners praise for its extensive array of weapon classes, the magic schools within the game are equally commendable. In this successful open-world title, FromSoft introduces two distinct types of magic: sorceries and incantations. The key differentiator lies in the catalyst used for casting spells. Sorceries necessitate the use of glintstone staffs, while incantations demand sacred seals.
FromSoft has meticulously crafted 18 diverse glintstone staffs, whereas the sacred seals are limited to half that number. Fortunately for caster builds, FromSoft has diversified sacred seals to scale from various stats. Among these, Erdtree Seal emerges as the paramount choice for pure Faith builds in Elden Ring. Furthermore, players can acquire it early by uncovering a secret shortcut.
Elden Ring: The Best Sacred Seals, Ranked
Of all Sacred Seals, there are only a few that can be considered the best seals Elden Ring offers – most of them are pretty easy to find, too.
Elden Ring: Erdtree Seal Location
Erdtree Seal can be found in a cell room west of the Prison Town Church site of grace in the Volcano Manor. Rather than undertaking the extensive journey to the Volcano Manor, situated far west of Altus Plateau, players have the option to take advantage of two shortcuts, allowing them to reach their destination instantly and avoid the lengthy and fatiguing ride. To reach the Prison Town Church, players can follow either of these two routes:
Reaching Volcano Manor by helping Rya
The initial shortcut involves assisting Rya, located in a rotunda north of Laskyar Ruins. Her necklace is stolen by the Blackguard Big Boggart, found near a shack northeast of Rya’s initial position. Players have the option to purchase Rya’s necklace for 1,000 runes. Alternatively, the necklace can be acquired by defeating Boggart, but doing so will lock you out of his questline.
Upon obtaining Rya’s Necklace, return it to her. As a token of gratitude, she will extend an invitation to Volcano Manor. Players must then collect both Dectus medallions and take the Grand Lift of Dectus to reach the Altus Plateau. Rya will be waiting just outside the lift. Take her hand to teleport to Volcano Manor. Once there, engage in a conversation with Tanith to join Volcano Manor and receive the Drawing Room key.
Now, proceed to the west hallway and open the first door on the right to discover a corpse with a perfume bottle. Strike the wall in front of the corpse to reveal a hidden path. Follow this path to its conclusion to find a door leading to the Site of Grace at the Prison Town Church. Exit the room and head west to encounter a humanoid serpent, some stray dogs, and an Iron Virgin. Just before reaching the Iron Virgin, players can locate an Omenkiller by jumping down from the ledge. The Erdtree Seal is on a corpse lying in the cell in front of the Omenkiller.
Iron Maiden Teleport to Volcano Manor
While exploring Raya Lucaria Academy, players will come across a giant waterwheel that takes them up to the Schoolhouse Classroom. This waterwheel can also be used to descend to the bottom, where players will find an Iron Maiden with teleportation powers. Dying to this Iron Maiden’s grab attack will teleport players to Volcano Manor. Before succumbing, make sure to collect the Longtail Cat Talisman, also located next to the Iron Maiden.
After teleporting, players will find themselves trapped near a lava waterfall. Equip the Longtail Cat Talisman to safely drop down without dying. This talisman negates all fall damage, which is helpful for players with low health. Once you have descended into the lava, head towards the buildings in front of you. Go south to find a lift guarded by a humanoid serpent. Use the lift and explore the upper area to locate a lever that opens the bridge to the Site of Grace at Prison Town Church.
From Prison Town Church, the path remains the same, as explained earlier. Head west and descend to the town with an Omenkiller enemy. Players can then claim the Erdtree Seal from a cell west of the Omenkiller.
Erdtree Seal Stats Requirement and Scaling Explained
Erdtree Seal is a sacred seal scaling purely off the character’s Faith stat in Elden Ring. Intriguingly, this seal distinguishes itself by having zero weight, whereas all other sacred seals bear a weight of 1.5. To wield it, a minimum of 40 levels in Faith is required, catering primarily to pure Faith builds. The high Faith requirement opens the gateway to an array of potent incantations suitable for both offensive and defensive strategies.
The Erdtree Seal falls under the category of unique weapons, requiring players to use Somber Smithing stones for leveling. Starting at level 5, the Erdtree Seal achieves an impressive S scaling in Faith. It encounters a soft cap at 60 Faith, reaching an Incant scaling of 273 at its peak. This sacred seal then hits a hard cap at 80 Faith, where it reaches its zenith with an Incant scaling of 353.
For Faith-focused builds investing 80 points in this stat, the Erdtree Seal stands out as the optimal choice. Alternatively, players may consider other sacred seals, such as Godslayer’s Seal and Finger Seal, which present significantly higher scaling at lower levels of Faith investment.
