Pokemon Champions even adds new content to the franchise with some of its creatures, giving Abilities to Pokemon first featured in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Pokemon Champions has already given fans plenty of incentive to jump into the competitive scene for the franchise. The spinoff heavily simplifies the process of EV training for fans building teams, allowing players to use Pokemon Champions‘ Victory Point currency to distribute effort values into different stats. Champions also brought some massive changes to IVs, with The Pokemon Works removing the individual values assigned to a Pokemon when catching it.

While Pokemon Champions sets the foundation for a competitive-focused platform, the game has plenty of room to grow going forward. Champions notably does not include all the franchise’s more than 1,000 Pokemon, with some tournament staples like Rillaboom, Miraidon, and Rapid-Strike Urshifu left off Champions‘ initial roster. Fans have also noticed that many held items are absent from Pokemon Champions, including some of the most popular items in the franchise like Life Orb, Assault Vest, and the Choice items, among several others. Fans should keep an eye on Champions moving forward as the game continues to grow and evolve into a landmark platform for competitive Pokemon.
