The Elder Scrolls Online has remained so successful since its 2014 release thanks to the consistent expansions it has released over the years. Using the same formula of past successful MMO franchises like World of Warcraft, ESO has had the rich and expansive world of Tamriel to pull from with its many expansions.
Recently, fans were excited to learn of the latest upcoming DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online, being a brand-new chapter for the game known as Gold Road. While more details are expected to release in the coming weeks, there is already a wealth of confirmed features for Gold Road that will get any fans of the franchise excited about its launch.
The Elder Scrolls Online: 10 Great Side Quests That Are Easy To Miss
There are many great quests in The Elder Scrolls Online, but some are very easy to miss for one reason or another.
The Elder Scrolls Online’s Gold Road is Full of New Story Elements and Game Mechanics
The main story of ESO‘s Gold Road will be preceeded by a smaller-scale DLC pack called Scions of Ethella, which is currently slated for a March release window. Featuring two new 4-player dungeons named Oathsworn Pit and Bedlam Veil, Scions of Ethella will lay the first narrative threads of a wider story that Gold Road will pursue in more detail.
Gold Road is expected to release on June 3 for PC and June 18 for consoles, and the center of its narrative will explore the return of a forgotten Daedric Prince known as Ithelia. Also referred to as the Forgotten Prince, the introduction of a brand-new Daedric Prince is reflective of Gold Road‘s ambition, with her ability to alter reality itself having huge implications for Tamriel’s future. It seems that Ithelia’s return has already begun to alter the landscape of Tamriel in ESO‘s Gold Road expansion, stoking tensions between factions that players will be at the center of throughout the DLC.
As expected, Gold Road will feature some brand-new areas for Elder Scrolls Online, primarily the region of West Weald. In all, West Weald features locations from the following areas of Tamriel:
- Gold Road
Bethesda has already been vocal about the links some of these areas will have with past mainline The Elder Scrolls games, with Oblivion being a particular point of reference for Gold Road. The city of Skingrad appears to be a primary location of Gold Road, for example, being one of the most prominent cities in 2006’s Oblivion.
New Game Mechanics Will Compliment ESO’s Gold Road Story
A new game mechanic known as Scribing is one of the most prominent features in Gold Road, completely rewriting how magic can be used in-game. Scribing’s main purpose is to give more power to the player in how they want to tailor their magical abilities and roleplaying perspectives, introducing brand-new skills known as Grimoires. While coming with base features, Grimoires come with three levels of further customization that is left to the player’s discretion, giving three unique functions to a specific ability depending on the situation the player finds themselves in.
This intriguing new mechanic is set to be a staple of Gold Road‘s gameplay, with fans already thinking of how they can specialize certain abilities for the upcoming experience. With a detailed narrative and fresh locations also releasing with the expansion, The Elder Scrolls Online‘s Gold Road has some deeply exciting features that players should not miss out on.
