Finding power armor in the Fallout 76 wasteland may very well be many gamer’s first priority. Nevertheless, maintaining and running power armor isn’t so simple, as they are powered by fusion cores which are relatively rare. Without them, power armor can’t be used to the best of its ability.

Fallout 76: Cultist Locations

In Fallout 76, Cultists might spawn in the most random locations, but these are the best spots for farming them.

Finding fusion cores can be tricky, and getting one that’s fully charged is even trickier. All suits of Power Armor in Fallout 76 require a core to operate, and using one that’s half-empty won’t do anybody any favors. Here’s a quick guide going over some quick ways to get fusion cores as well as some tips on how to charge them.

Updated April 16, 2024 by Marc Santos: When looking for fusion cores, it’s important to consider both quantity and quality. Finding tons of cores with low charge levels will only lead to frustration and wasted inventory space, and getting only one fully-charged fusion core is likely not enough to sustain prolonged Power Armor usage. This guide has been updated to include a section that’s all about charging fusion cores to help keep players juiced up as they trek through Appalachia.

How To Find Fusion Cores in Fallout 76

fallout-76-side-content-150-hours

To find fusion cores for the best Power Armor suits in Fallout 76, veteran players should loot generators, abandoned power armor, and containers. This straightforward method will not yield high results, but it’s something simple to do in passing. Check near Power Armor Stations for a better chance at finding some.

Finding even more fusion cores requires a little more effort but has a bigger reward. Crafting fusion cores is a possibility that can lead to a near limitless supply (though it does depend on how much time the player wants to sink in). At the very least, it’s easy enough to power a whole squad, but the first step is to go to a location such as the Poseidon Power Plant.

Once there, players will need to complete the event to repair the power plant, then build a base around the Fusion Core Processor. Defensive measures should be taken as raiders will attack it from time to time, but other players will likely be around to help. 100 electricity is required to power the processor. Previously, there used to be a bug in Fallout 76 that gave players free fusion cores. This has since been patched out, however.

Fallout 76: Best Early Weapons

There are tons of weapons in Fallout 76, but some shine brighter in the early game where ammo and resources are scarce.

How to Charge Fusion Cores

One of the easiest ways to recharge spent fusion cores is to use Electric Absorption, one of the Legendary Perks in Fallout 76 that negates incoming Energy damage and converts it into health and fusion core power. This effect only has a 10% chance of triggering by default, but that’s enough to get an empty fusion core filled up in less than a minute, assuming you know what to do and where to go.

The best place to charge fusion cores using Electric Absorption is the Tygart Water Treatment Plant, which is directly north of Summersville in the Forest region. This POI is occupied by Liberators, small robots that fire energy beams. Simply get one of the bots to shoot at you, and watch as your fusion cores recharge automatically. Liberators are fairly weak, especially when you have Power Armor on, so there’s very little chance of you dying here. Alternatively, you can purchase the Fusion Core Recharger plans from the Atomic Shop and build one in your CAMP.
