Fallout 4: Detour is officially here, giving players a new excuse to return to the Commonwealth for even more adventures. This new Fallout 4 quest mod is one of the most exciting additions to the game to date, with tons of content to enjoy.

Thriving mod communities are one of the big reasons why Bethesda has been able to take its time with its two biggest franchises, Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Both series have some of the most dedicated modders, who keep creating impressive new mods, even for older titles like Skyrim and Fallout 4. This breathes new life into these titles, letting them stick around long after their initial release. Impressively, these modders aren’t slowing down – quite the opposite, actually. Fallout 4 mods are only getting more ambitious over time, a testament to the talent of the creators behind them.

Fallout 4: Detour Mod Adds a Whole New Town

A new Fallout 4 mod named Detour has officially been released on Nexus Mods, adding new story quests, a bunch of new voiced characters with over 600 lines of dialogue, and a brand-new town to explore. This also includes new vendors, a player house, clothing, and more. Four developers are credited with the bulk of the mod’s creation, with an extensive pool of talented voice actors bringing the characters to life.

Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.

According to the developer, Fallout 4: Detour is planned as a “platform” to expand over time, suggesting there’s even more to come. The team touts “no AI” involved in its creation, which, in a world where AI is increasingly being used to mod games, will be a huge selling point for some.

Fallout 4: Detour Key Features

  • New town to explore
  • Over 600 lines of dialogue
  • Over a dozen new fully-voiced characters
  • New quests and activities to complete
  • New player-owned house
  • Voiced player dialogue

One of the most interesting things about Detour is how it feels like it could have been a part of vanilla Fallout 4. It’s one of the problems that can happen with even the best Fallout 4 mods, where the creator doesn’t quite match the original game’s vibe. While many players can look past this, it can definitely make a mod stand out in a bad way. But that isn’t the case with this new Fallout 4 release – Detour builds with a bunch of vanilla assets mixed with some new ones, all of which feel right at home.

After years of quiet, it seems Bethesda is ready to move forward with Fallout video games again. Earlier this year, the developer revealed that remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in development, with Fallout 5 in pre-production and a brand-new spin-off game from Obsidian on the way. This marks a drastic shift in strategy for the studio since the arrival of new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, but it should leave gamers excited about the franchise’s future.
